Cam Ha Commune is the largest and most famous place to grow Tet kumquats in the Central region. This time of year is the busiest season for kumquat growers here. From the beginning of the commune, the atmosphere has become bustling and busy, with garden owners, workers and traders coming and going continuously.
Gardeners are taking extra care of their plants to ensure they are ready to sell to traders. At this time, kumquats are starting to turn yellow, so people are taking advantage of the opportunity to prune leaves, fertilize, and water the plants to ensure the quality of the kumquats.
Although Tet is still nearly two months away, according to garden owners, 80-90% of the kumquat trees in the garden have been ordered by traders.
Kumquats here are mainly sold to the Central Highlands provinces such as Da Nang, Hue, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Gia Lai...
Mr. Nguyen Van Nhi (65 years old, residing in Bau Oc village, Cam Ha commune, Hoi An city) has about 500 kumquat trees. Although they are currently being transferred to gold, traders have already purchased them all two months ago.
“Since August and September, traders from Gia Lai and Kon Tum have come to deposit and buy all the kumquat trees in the garden. Now we just take care of the trees until mid-December when traders come to take them away,” said Mr. Nhi.

Unlike other kumquat growing areas, kumquats in Cam Ha take nearly three years to reach the market. On average, a kumquat bonsai is grown in the garden for two years, then the roots are transplanted into pots, the tree is nurtured for a year before being sold to traders.
Currently, the price of kumquat ranges from 500,000 VND to 3 million VND/pot, depending on the size of the kumquat, some trees cost from 4 - 5 million VND.
This year the weather is favorable, kumquats grow well, the selling price is higher than last year so people here are quite excited. Mr. Nguyen Luong (62 years old, living in Bau Oc village, Cam Ha commune) said that this year the kumquats are more beautiful than last year, the price has increased slightly so he is very happy.
“This year, the price of kumquat trees has increased by 5-10% compared to last year. Fortunately, the trees are growing well this year. With more than 200 kumquat trees, after deducting expenses, I earned nearly 100 million VND in profit,” Mr. Luong shared.
In Hoi An City, after Cam Ha Commune, Thanh Ha Commune is also a locality with a large area of kumquat trees. Currently, gardeners here have had almost all of their kumquat trees ordered by traders even though it is not yet Tet.
