On the afternoon of November 30, Dak Song District People's Committee organized the program Connecting, promoting and sustainably developing pepper.
Pepper is one of the main crops in Dak Nong province. By the end of 2022, the pepper area of the whole province reached 33,985 hectares, with an output of 69,762 tons, an increase of 27,535 tons compared to 2018. Currently, Dak Nong's pepper area ranks first in the country.
Dak Song district is considered the pepper capital of Dak Nong province with about 13,000 hectares. By 2023, the whole Dak Song district will develop about 14,051 hectares of pepper. Of which, 39 hectares will be newly planted, 13,304 hectares will be for business, and 708 hectares will be for basic construction. The pepper output of the whole Dak Song district will reach about 35,298 tons.
In the past, pepper growers in the district have faced many difficulties due to unsustainable pepper production, the pepper growing area in many areas has increased rapidly, exceeding the planning, especially in unsuitable areas.
On the other hand, there are still no effective measures to prevent diseases on pepper plants, especially quick death and slow death diseases. The work of selecting varieties still has many limitations, especially the production of disease-free pepper varieties, the work of selecting and recognizing parent trees and parent tree gardens has not been carried out.
Farmers' cultivation techniques and measures for care and pest control are still low, and they use old farming methods.
It is worth mentioning that many people are using chemical fertilizers and pesticides in the wrong concentration, dosage, time and method to prevent pests and diseases.
This leads to old pepper gardens with poor resistance, very susceptible to disease... greatly affecting the productivity, pepper quality as well as the life of the pepper garden.
Based on the above situation, Dak Song district believes that it is necessary to have a sustainable pepper development orientation, stable investment, sustainable development in joint ventures, and linkages with existing lush pepper areas.
Regarding this, the People's Committee of Dak Song district has solutions to support farmers in the district through annual training programs on transferring pepper planting and care techniques, integrating projects and programs that have been and are being implemented in the district...
Pepper growers have received support from professional agencies, companies and businesses in many aspects, especially training in technical advances to help farmers gradually abandon unsustainable traditional farming habits.
Thanks to that, the productivity and quality of Dak Song pepper have been gradually improved. The brand and geographical indication of Dak Nong pepper have been and are being built, in the future it will contribute to increasing the value of Dak Song pepper...
In the coming time, Dak Song District People's Committee will continue to strengthen the organization of connection programs, promote and develop pepper plants to ensure output and increase income for people.
