Gender pay gap
According to statistics from the General Statistics Office, the labor and employment situation in the first quarter of 2025 continues to maintain the rule of the quarter with Lunar New Year, which is that the labor force decreases compared to the previous quarter and increases compared to the same period last year.
Average monthly income of workers increased compared to the previous quarter and the same period last year. The unemployment rate among working age people decreased compared to the previous quarter and decreased compared to the same period last year.
The average income of workers in the first 3 months of 2025 is 8.3 million VND/month, an increase of 131,000 VND compared to the fourth quarter of 2024 and an increase of 720,000 VND compared to the same period in 2024.
The average monthly income of male workers is 9.3 million VND/month, and that of female workers is 7.1 million VND/month. The average income of workers in urban areas is 10.1 million VND/month, and that of rural areas is 7.2 million VND/month.
The average monthly income of wage workers is 9.4 million VND/month, up 10.7%, equivalent to an increase of 906,000 VND compared to the same period last year. The income of male workers is 9.8 million VND/month, and that of female workers is 8.9 million VND/month.
Thus, the average income of male workers is 2.1 million VND/month higher than that of female workers. For wage workers, male wages are 900,000 VND/month higher than female wages.
1.35 million unemployed youth
According to this report, in the first 3 months of the year, the whole country had about 1.35 million young people (aged 15-24) without jobs and not participating in education or training; accounting for 10.4% of the total number of young people, an increase of 84.4 thousand people compared to the previous quarter.
The rate of unemployed and uneducated youth in urban areas is 8.2%; in rural areas it is 11.7%; unemployed female youth and uneducated are 11.5%; and 9.3% male.
The labor force aged 15 and over nationwide in the first three months of the year was estimated at 52.9 million people, down 230,700 people compared to the previous quarter. The rate of trained workers with degrees and certificates was 28.8%, up compared to the previous quarter.
The agriculture, forestry and fishery sector has 13.5 million workers; accounting for 26%. The industry and construction sector has 17.3 million people, accounting for 33.3%. The service sector has the highest number with 21.1 million workers, accounting for 40.7%.
