Reading the commemorative speech, Mr. Ho Minh Ly - Secretary of the Dien Quang Commune Party Committee reviewed the historical stages of the struggle against foreign invaders, the heroic tradition of the Party Committee, government and people of the commune. After the North was completely liberated, the US - Diem regime caused much pain and sorrow to the people of Dien Quang in particular. The people of the commune rose up together, defeating all the enemy's strategies of "Special War", "Vietnamization of the war", "Localized War".
In order to wipe out this strategically important countryside, the US imperialists used B52 bombers to carpet bomb, drop toxic chemicals, coordinate bombs, bulldoze catalysts, and herd people into concentration camps to carry out the plot of “draining water to catch fish”. Many sweeps at the peak involved more than 2 regiments, 200 tanks, armored vehicles, bombers, and extremely fierce bombardment.
However, the people of Dien Quang still “did not move an inch, did not leave a millimeter”, clung to the land, protected the village, sheltered and hid cadres, and developed the movement. Provincial and District Party Committee cadres worked together, lived with the people, when the enemy dropped bombs they went down to the bunkers, when the bombs stopped they went up to the ground. From a population of 120 people at the end of 1972, in 1973 it had increased to 390 people. The successful eradication of the white zone was a victory of great political significance for the people.
On the morning of March 29, 1975, the army and people of Dien Quang, together with the entire Dien Ban district, defeated the puppet army and puppet government of Dien Ban district. The country was completely unified, but there were still many difficulties and challenges ahead. The cadres and people of Dien Quang embarked on the cause of building and developing their homeland and achieved remarkable achievements. Nearly 40 years of the renovation period, the socio-economy has developed strongly; the average income per capita reached 67.25 million VND/year, the multidimensional poverty rate was 0.21%.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Phan Minh Dung - Secretary of Dien Ban Town Party Committee said that the children born and raised on Dien Quang land such as Hoang Dieu, Tran Cao Van, Le Dinh Duong, Phan Thanh Tai, Phan Thanh, Tran Thi Ly, Tran Thi Van, Nguyen Thi Binh and many other excellent children have worthily inherited the tradition of their ancestors. With their outstanding achievements through the two resistance wars, the Party Committee and People of Dien Quang commune were awarded the noble title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.
The whole commune has 1,221 martyrs, 157 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; 7 individuals were awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces; more than 100 wounded and sick soldiers and hundreds of families with revolutionary contributions. In 2014, Dien Quang commune achieved the new rural standard, in 2023 it achieved the model new rural commune standard. Dien Quang is the leading unit of Dien Ban and also the first unit of Quang Nam province to achieve the model new rural commune standard with outstanding content in the cultural field.
