Collecting DNA samples from relatives of more than 9,000 unidentified martyrs

According to statistics, there are currently 17,573 martyrs in Ha Nam province, of which 9,219 martyrs have not been identified.

On October 15, Ha Nam Provincial Police coordinated with the Department of Administrative Management of Social Order, the Ministry of Public Security and testing units to organize a program to collect DNA samples from relatives of unidentified martyrs.

According to the plan, the collection of genetic samples from martyrs’ relatives will be carried out in several phases. In the first phase, Ha Nam Provincial Police will coordinate to collect samples from 140 martyrs’ mothers in districts, towns and cities in the area for 2 days from October 15 to 16 for identification, gradually building a gene bank.

For cases where there is difficulty in traveling, Ha Nam Provincial Police will arrange for forces to collect samples directly at the martyr's relative's home.

For decades, heroic Vietnamese mother Nguyen Thi Hop (97 years old, in Trang An commune, Binh Luc district) has been anxiously searching for the remains of her two sons who died. Hop cannot remember how many times she has searched for her sons' remains.

On the occasion of the program's implementation, Ha Nam Provincial Police and the Department of Administrative Management of Social Order, Ministry of Public Security visited and presented gifts to relatives of unidentified martyrs who participated in sample collection.
