This afternoon (January 18), the Vietnam team held a press conference before the match with Indonesia, in the second round of the group stage of the 2023 Asian Cup (9:00 p.m., January 19). Representing the Vietnam team are coach Troussier and goalkeeper Nguyen Filip.
Nguyen Filip's presence at the press conference before the match was quite surprising, because this was the first time he was called up to the Vietnamese national team.
The goalkeeper, who is of Vietnamese and Czech descent, had his first match for the Vietnamese national team when he took the field against Japan on January 15.
Talking about the performance of the Vietnamese team against Japan, Nguyen Filip shared with pride: "Before the match, many people thought that Japan would win by a large margin against Vietnam, but at many times in the first half, the Vietnamese team played very well, even leading 2-1 at one point. Unfortunately, this advantage was not maintained afterwards."
However, evaluating the match as a whole, I am very proud of the team's performance because in front of many people from Asia to the world, the Vietnamese team demonstrated its strength."
Talking about the match against Indonesia tomorrow (January 19), Nguyen Filip said: "In my first match against Japan, this is a difficult match because Japan has many players playing at top clubs in Europe.
For the Indonesian team, I respect every team and consider every opponent the same. I even consider Indonesia to be as strong as Japan."
Our goal in this match is 3 points because we all know that to advance we need at least 3 points. I know from the history of the two teams, each time they face each other they are very determined, even having situations of collision with each other.
We enter tomorrow's match with a firm determination in our playing style. Vietnamese players will minimize contact with the opponent because fair play is also an important factor in the case of having to consider additional indicators with other teams.
The Vietnamese team is very focused and I believe we will get good results in tomorrow's match."
The match between Vietnam and Indonesia will take place at 9:30 p.m. on January 19 at Khalifa Stadium (Doha, Qatar). The match will be refereed by Tajikistani referee Gulmurodi Sadullo.
