On the evening of March 25, China suffered a 0-2 defeat to Australia at home, in the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia.
Before the match, China was at the bottom of Group C with only 6 points (-11 goal difference). Meanwhile, Australia was in 2nd place with 10 points.
Therefore, victory is a must for the home team if they want to keep their hopes of reaching the 2026 World Cup alive.
However, the Australian team with superior strength easily dominated the match from the first minutes.
In the 16th minute, the away team opened the scoring with a classy move by Jackson Irvine. He handled the ball skillfully and then made a beautiful curling shot.
After scoring, the Australian team continued to put pressure on the defense of the billion-people team. The away team increased the score to 2-0 thanks to a strange mistake by the Chinese goalkeeper. Goalkeeper Wang Dalei foolishly missed the ball, causing the home team to concede the goal.
Conceding two goals, China tried their best to attack, but the first half still ended with a score of 2-0 for the away team.

In the second half, the Australian team proactively gave the game to China. The home team had more possession and had a few chances, but the lack of luck of players like Behram Abduweli and Haijian Wang meant they could not take advantage of them.
The Chinese team even had more shots than their opponents (8 compared to 6), but were unable to score.
At the end of the match, China accepted a 0-2 defeat to the Australian team. This result left the Chinese team at the bottom of the table with 6 points (-13 goal difference), and further away from the dream of the 2026 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Australia continued to consolidate its second place with 13 points, 3 points more than Saudi Arabia.
