Nguyen Hoang Minh Quan (9A student, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted) has just become the valedictorian of the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi in 2024 with a total score of 48.5, including 2 absolute 10s.
Minh Quan made many people admire with 2 exams in Math and English with absolute score of 10; Literature got 9.25. The total score of the male student was 48.5. In addition, Minh Quan's score in Math for IT major in Hanoi's 10th grade entrance exam was 8.25; his score in English major was 7.2. Minh Quan said he was very happy with this result. In fact, after the exam, Quan was somewhat able to assess the scores of the subjects but did not think he would become valedictorian.

Sharing with Vietnamnet, Ms. Do Thi Kim Ngan, Minh Quan's mother, said that when she heard that her son got a high score on the 10th grade entrance exam and became valedictorian, she was very happy but also considered this as a normal result. "I'm not really surprised about the scores my son got because after taking the exam, he also graded his own score. As for becoming valedictorian or the candidate with the highest or second highest score of the exam, the family did not set a goal, just making sure that he passed their wish is very happy", Ms. Ngan said. Talking about her son, Ms. Ngan said that Minh Quan is a very conscious, serious and mature person. "He is very conscious in studying, always completing his homework in class completely. Although he majors in IT, Quan does not play games", Ms. Ngan said. However, Minh Quan is not the type of person who likes to study too much. “Even when it comes to studying specialized subjects, my child doesn’t study with too many teachers, but only chooses to study at a place that feels suitable for him. Instead, he spends his time on his own to study more,” Ms. Ngan shared. However, according to Ms. Ngan, his child learns well. Quan is passionate about studying, but Ms. Ngan also sets clear rules for his child about limiting study hours. “Normally, I set a rule that my child has to stop studying at 11 p.m. Maybe, for other children, studying until 1-2 a.m. is normal, but I want my child to learn how to manage himself scientifically . And if he can’t organize and organize his work all day, he has to accept it. Because I always tell him that taking care of his health is also very important. That’s why he always takes advantage of every little bit of time, and will take care of things as they come, instead of waiting until the last minute,” Ms. Ngan said. That’s why Minh Quan always has a clear plan. Minh Quan has also won many awards and achievements in his studies. In 2021, Minh Quan excelled in winning the championship title in the English Champion 2021 contest. He was also an excellent student at the city level in Information Technology. Minh Quan likes information technology, programming and reading. "I often read books in English and listen to foreign radio stations," Ms. Ngan shared. In addition to studying, to relieve stress, Minh Quan has a hobby of swimming and still maintains this activity regularly until the day of the 10th grade entrance exam. "I also often encourage my child by saying that he can reduce his studying. It's only about 1 hour a day, but in return, he gets to exercise and be healthy," Ms. Ngan said.

Ms. Ngan said that the result her child achieved today is a very happy thing, but her family only considers it one of the first steps on the journey, not a great achievement. "I still tell my child that the journey of studying and training ahead will have many difficulties and that he needs to continue to try harder and be more courageous," Ms. Ngan shared. Before knowing the results of the 10th grade public exam in Hanoi, Minh Quan also received news of being admitted to both the IT and English majors of 3 specialized schools, including: the IT major of the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences (under the University of Natural Sciences - VNU), the IT major of the High School for the Gifted in Hanoi National University of Education, the English major of the High School for the Gifted in Foreign Languages (under the University of Foreign Languages - VNU). Notably, although he did not study much for the English major exam, Quan was still admitted to the scholarship of the High School for the Gifted in Foreign Languages. By becoming the valedictorian of the 2024 Hanoi public 10th grade entrance exam, Minh Quan will certainly continue to be admitted to Yen Hoa High School as his first choice. In the coming days, he will wait for information on the admission scores of specialized schools/specialized groups from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training before making a final decision on which school to attend.
