Gen Z's top student in data analytics with a passion for startups

(Dan Tri) - Tran Le Hoang Thang (born in 2002) is the valedictorian of the International School - Vietnam National University, Hanoi. In addition to his excellent academic achievements, this Gen Z student also has many impressive awards in startup competitions.

Tran Le Hoang Thang graduated with a score of 3.91/4.0 from the Business Data Analysis major - International School (VNU, Hanoi).

Sharing with Dan Tri newspaper reporter, Hoang Thang said that this title is a journey of his efforts and attempts: "I just keep in mind to do my best and within my ability.

Becoming the valedictorian and one of the 100 valedictorians at the ceremony to honor outstanding valedictorians graduating from universities and academies in Hanoi in 2024 is an honor that I will never forget."

Passion for startups

Hoang Thang commented: "Startup is the journey of a group of people with the same idea to create solutions and potential products that bring economic value and solve practical problems in society."

During his journey of participating in startup competitions, Hoang Thang was honored to represent Hanoi National University to attend the startup program organized by the National University of Singapore (NUS).

For the male student, this is an experience for him to be exposed to a lot of knowledge related to startups. The participants are students from countries in the Southeast Asian region who are passionate about this field.

In this program, Thang learned about knowledge related to market evaluation and research - one of the important factors for a business. Or the rules and indicators of market size so that businesses can look at it to evaluate the level of profit for a project.

"This program also helps me understand that if you want to start a successful business, you must know how to choose a field and market that can generate high profits. Just like when fishing, we must choose which river section or pond has the most potential to catch the number of fish we want. Business and startups are the same," Thang shared.

In addition to the knowledge he has acquired, Hoang Thang feels lucky to have the opportunity to meet international professors and students. It is known that not only is he passionate about startups, the male student also spends time learning about knowledge related to the cultural field.

Attending this summer camp gave the male student the opportunity to be exposed to a multicultural environment. He said: "Each country has a different working style. Participants in the program must adapt to and respect the culture of their country. This is a great opportunity and experience in my student life."

Sharing about the most memorable startup competition, Hoang Thang said he could not forget the feeling of excitement and anxiety when standing on stage at the National Startup Festival for students SV Startup 2022 and presenting his idea.

"That day's competition was nationwide with 400 universities. Moreover, we were honored to welcome Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son. This somewhat made me feel pressured to perform better," Thang recalled.

When presenting his project "Gamma Box", a platform that integrates gamification elements to optimize marketing campaigns, to a panel of judges that Thang considered "old trees in the business field", the male student was very nervous.

At that moment, Thang suddenly realized that these moments of trembling, confusion and difficulty were the conditions for him to become more mature. After that, the male student quickly calmed himself down and completed the presentation with the group.

With the above "Gamma Box" project, Thang has won big and small awards such as third prize in the National Startup Festival for students, potential project award in the "VNU - Innovation Startup 2021" competition organized by the Hanoi National University Delegation...

Impressive academic achievement

Hoang Thang became a student of the International School through direct admission, receiving a full scholarship for 4 years of study. In addition, Thang also has an IELTS score of 8.5 and other remarkable achievements such as the certificate of "Excellent achievements in Youth Union work" at the Central level in 2024, one of ten outstanding students receiving the title of "Outstanding young face at Hanoi National University in 2023...

Hoang Thang is a former English major student of the Foreign Language High School - Hanoi National University. During his time at school, Thang also participated in many English speaking competitions.

However, after consideration, the male student decided to choose Business Data Analytics, a major that studies applied mathematics, computer science and business operations.

Sharing about the essay when submitting to the school, the male student recalled: "I convinced the International School to choose me for direct admission and a full scholarship through the activities and contributions that I will make to develop the faculty in general and the school in particular when I become a student of the school.

As a sports enthusiast, especially football, I have developed a plan and outlined an idea to encourage students - who often spend a lot of time in front of computer screens - to participate in physical activities.

The goal of my essay is to show effective ways to help students move from a state of being less interested in sports to being more active, enthusiastic and open to it."

Although he is always proactive in learning, Thang was also overwhelmed by the pace of university lectures. To achieve the best results, the male student outlined an effective learning path for himself.

First, Thang believes that learners must understand the ins and outs of the work they need to do. Then, learners will ask questions about that work such as: "What do we need to do? What is the priority order? How much time does it take to complete each stage? How do we use resources and tools to get the best results?"

The male student confided: "Students should prioritize appropriately in each stage. We ourselves must accept sacrificing time for this job to compensate for that job.

Maintaining a work-life balance is very important. In addition to balancing study and work, students also need to balance rest, sports and fun.

Because, not always sitting and working and studying a lot will bring high productivity and optimal efficiency. Entertainment moments are a great assistant, helping learners concentrate better when returning to their work.

This Gen Z male student also believes that whenever we are hesitating between continuing to sleep or playing for a few more minutes, remember that any great achievement is created by small daily efforts.
