(CLO) On January 8 in Hanoi, the Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection (VCPMC) held a ceremony to summarize its activities in 2024, announcing that the total revenue from the use of music copyright reached more than 393 billion VND, an increase of 14.2% compared to 2023.
Musician Dinh Trung Can, Meritorious Artist, General Director of VCPMC, said that of this amount, revenue from digital platforms such as websites and music applications dominates with more than 305 billion VND (78%).

During the year, the Center paid nearly VND257 billion in royalties to copyright owners. It is expected that in January 2025, nearly VND94 billion in royalties for the fourth quarter of 2024 will continue to be paid.
Efforts to protect copyright in the face of challenges
According to musician Dinh Trung Can, the Center has filed 79 lawsuits for copyright infringement and intellectual property disputes, of which 34 have been resolved. Common areas of infringement include the use of performance rights and copying of works on online platforms. Currently, many performance organizers, restaurant, cafe, hotel, and pay TV businesses are still avoiding their obligations to pay royalties.
In addition, conflicts of rights between other units have caused difficulties in the Center's operations, directly affecting the rights of authors.
Musician Dinh Trung Can emphasized that the lack of awareness of copyright obligations not only damages the creative assets of authors but also hinders the healthy development of the music industry.
Towards 2025: Strengthening copyright protection
The Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection aims to increase music licensing by 2025, increase copyright income for authors, as well as step up handling of violations and member care.
The Center is committed to legal support, dispute resolution, and sustainable development of the author community.
Speaking at the event, Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Hoai Son, Standing Member of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, emphasized the important role of the Center in protecting copyrights, contributing to the development of Vietnamese music with a strong identity and reaching international standards.
"Thanks to the Center's efforts, the rights of authors are protected, inspiring society and helping to build an advanced, world-oriented music industry," Mr. Bui Hoai Son shared.
With the results achieved in 2024, VCPMC continues to affirm its central role in protecting creative assets, creating trust for authors on the path of developing their artistic careers.
