Bringing waves to the deep
Zone 10, Mong Duong Ward, Cam Pha City is only 13km from the ward center. However, this is the most remote area of Mong Duong Ward and Cam Pha City with 95% of the population being ethnic minorities. On the winding road from the ward center to the zone, in the late spring rains, we were led by technical staff of Viettel Quang Ninh Construction Branch in Cam Pha area and the Party Secretary, Head of Zone 10 to visit the BTS station. The station is located on a high hill, so from the main road to the BTS station, it is covered with hilly land, many steep sections, it takes 30 minutes to walk.
Mr. Ban Dau Tinh, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Zone 10 shared: Zone 10 has 180 households, located far from the center, with complex terrain conditions. Therefore, installing a BTS station is not easy. If we put the economic problem into perspective, we certainly do not need to calculate to get the result immediately. However, with the attention of the locality and telecommunications enterprises, with the determination to bring mobile networks to remote, mountainous areas, Viettel Quang Ninh has made every effort to build a broadcasting station in this area to serve the communication needs of the people. I still clearly remember the day the broadcasting station was officially put into operation, which was a day before the Lunar New Year, December 25, 2024 of the lunar calendar because it was truly a special day for the people in the area. As soon as the information about the installation of a BTS station in the area was received, the people were happy, excited, and enthusiastic. Many households in the area rushed with the telecommunications unit to find a place to install it. Many households volunteered to donate forest land to build BTS stations. Many households even worked hard to pull wires to support the telecommunications unit. When the entire area was covered by phone signal, everyone was overwhelmed with joy. The convenience in communication helped to eliminate the distance between the farthest area of Mong Duong ward and other localities. 3G, 4G, 5G waves are also present here.
Previously, Mrs. Ban Thi Xuan and her children never thought that it would be easy to use a mobile phone to call and chat with their children when going to the forest and seeing images as if they were talking directly. Mrs. Xuan excitedly shared: Since having a stable mobile signal, I have bought a smart mobile phone. Thanks to that, every time my children and I go to the forest, we can easily contact each other by mobile phone or zalo. From then on, I can easily manage my work at home and go to work to earn more income.
Ms. Trieu Thi Linh, who donated land to build the BTS station, expressed: Zone 10 is the furthest area from the center. Therefore, since the policy of building a BTS station in the zone was announced, the people in the zone and I were very happy because with stable mobile signal, trading, doing business, and developing the economy will be easier. Therefore, I donated nearly 500m2 of forest land for Viettel Quang Ninh to build a station, poles, and pull wires for the BTS station to ensure mobile information coverage for the entire zone. Since the zone has been covered by mobile signal, not only is communication convenient, we can also easily watch TV, grasp information, and access policies of the province and locality.
The joy of the people in Zone 10 is the same as that of other villages and areas in ethnic minority, mountainous and border areas in the province that are covered by mobile phone signals. The mobile phone signals reaching the highlands bring cultural light, gradually eliminating the gap between rich and poor, and improving the intellectual level of the people.
To no longer have a concave area
To quickly eliminate the mobile signal depression, Quang Ninh province and telecommunications enterprises have actively focused resources on investing in BTS stations. In particular, the province has closely directed localities, departments and branches to quickly deploy and shorten unnecessary procedures related to site clearance and document appraisal to create conditions for enterprises to soon invest and build BTS stations.
On the business side, although they know that coverage to remote areas, border areas, and islands requires a large investment, expensive operating costs, and low economic efficiency, telecommunications businesses are still determined to join hands with the province for the goal of community development, ensuring social security, and narrowing the gap between regions.
In 2024 alone, telecommunications companies have invested in building 7 BTS stations covering 7 villages to expand connections, eliminate "low" mobile signal areas, and bring the Internet and modern telecommunications services to people in remote areas. These include: Team 7, 8 Linh Trang village, Trang Luong commune, Dong Trieu city, Cau Phung village, Quang Son commune, Hai Ha district; Tan Oc 1 village, Dong Son commune, Ha Long city, etc.
The province's telecommunications network infrastructure continues to be invested and expanded, with high speed, broadband and ensuring coverage of 100% of villages, hamlets and neighborhoods in the province. The telecommunications infrastructure meets essential needs, contributing to improving the efficiency of operation and use of e-government applications, the direction and administration of agencies and units in the political system, and at the same time helping local people to access information more easily. The fixed broadband telecommunications network infrastructure is widely deployed to ensure that 100% of communes, wards and towns have fixed broadband internet.
The total number of BTS stations in the province to date is 5,078 stations, corresponding to 3,243 station locations. The rate of population covered by 4G mobile network is 100%. BTS stations have been actively shared by mobile telecommunications enterprises at some station locations, using antenna poles that are not bulky or camouflaged, environmentally friendly to ensure safety and urban beauty.
“Most of the areas with “low” mobile signal are remote areas, islands, and complex terrain, which has significantly affected the quality of mobile signal. However, investing in mobile signal in these areas is very meaningful, creating a foundation, a new breakthrough, people will change their thinking, develop the economy, and gradually improve their lives. Therefore, in 2024, we invested in 158 BTS stations in these areas. This year, we will continue to invest in 327 more BTS stations to cover all low-lying areas, ensuring communication and meeting people's living needs,” said Mr. Du Thanh Hoai, Deputy Director of Viettel Quang Ninh Construction Branch.
