In early 2023, Mr. Pham Ngoc Dung invested more than 1.5 billion VND to buy 45 composite tanks for mud-free eel farming.

Returning to his hometown after many years of working far away, at the end of 2019, Mr. Pham Ngoc Dung (born in 1990, in Nam Binh village, Thach Dai commune, Thach Ha) decided to invest in commercial eel farming. Taking advantage of the vacant land around his house and available materials, he made 5 tarpaulin-lined tanks, each tank has an area of 5m2 to raise commercial eels in the form of mud-free farming.

Mr. Dung ordered 10,000 eels from Phu Yen province, weighing 500 per kilogram. After 8-10 months of raising, the eels reached 4-5 per kilogram and then began to sell. In the first batch, Mr. Dung harvested more than 1.5 tons of eels, bringing in a revenue of more than 200 million VND. After deducting expenses, he made a profit of more than 60 million VND.

Mud-free eel farming does not take up much space, has favorable output and the price is always stable at a high level.

In the following years, each year he harvested over 2.5 tons of eel, after deducting expenses, he earned more than 100 million VND.

Realizing the potential of the consumer market, in early 2023, he invested more than 1.5 billion VND to buy 45 composite tanks, farming tools, food and eel seeds. Currently, he owns more than 120,000 in his farming area.

With proper care techniques and a large consumer market, Mr. Dung estimates he can earn nearly 1 billion VND from this mud-free eel farming model.

Mr. Dung built a proper drainage system to ensure a living environment for eels.

Mr. Dung said: “For eels to grow and develop well, the tank must be well-ventilated. Eels are quite sensitive to the water environment in the tank, so the water must be changed daily after feeding; on the water surface, it is necessary to spread a lot of nylon fibers as a substrate for the eels to live.

In addition to industrial bran, I also add earthworms, minced fish, and chicken eggs to help reduce the amount of bran and provide nutrients to help the eels stay healthy and grow quickly. In addition, I also pay special attention to preventing common diseases in eels such as diarrhea, intestinal bleeding, and fungus…”

According to Mr. Dung, the advantage of raising eels without mud is that it does not require much care, does not take up much space, has a favorable output and the price is always stable at a high level (120-14 thousand VND/kg). In particular, eels are less susceptible to disease because they do not come into contact with bacteria in the muddy environment.

With proper care techniques and a large consumer market, Mr. Dung estimates he will earn billions from eel farming.

To ensure a safe water source for eel farming and help the eels grow healthily, Mr. Dung built a systematic water discharge system. All eel wastewater is put into a settling tank. This tank raises catfish and duckweed, and uses probiotics to treat dirt, keeping the water clean and reducing environmental pollution.
