Within the framework of the working trip to New Zealand and Australia from October 6 to 15 of the Hanoi City Delegation led by Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong, on the morning of October 11, the delegation had a working session with Ms. Katie Knight, Director General of the New South Wales Investment Agency, Australian Ministry of Investment, Trade and Enterprise, and a number of leaders of the state's specialized agencies.
Attending the meeting were Mr. Nguyen Dang Thang - Consul General of Vietnam in charge of New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia.

The working visit of the Hanoi delegation to the land of kangaroos took place in the context of Vietnam and Australia organizing many activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1973-2023). At the working session with the New South Wales government, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong highly appreciated the remarkable development of Vietnam-Australia relations over the past half century, becoming a close and strong regional neighborly relationship. The capital of Vietnam has always been at the forefront of promoting cooperative relations with Australian states and cities, including New South Wales.
The Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee hopes that the two localities will strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, education and training, cultural exchange, etc., as well as expand cooperation with other Australian cities within the framework of the Creative Cities Network of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Accordingly, the two sides will increase online and direct exchanges between cultural agencies to exchange experiences in developing cultural and film industries; promote creativity in urban development, digital innovation in literature, and support and develop young writers of the two countries.
Appreciating the potential of Hanoi, Ms. Katie Knight commented that the state of New South Wales and the capital of Vietnam still have a lot of room and opportunities for cooperation and need to continue to promote in the coming time, especially in the context that the Australian Government has just announced the Southeast Asia Economic Strategy from now until 2040 with the goal of strengthening trade links with the region and developing partnerships with Asian countries, including Vietnam.
New South Wales has opened a representative office in Vietnam and is ready to welcome Vietnamese businesses in general, and Hanoi in particular, to participate in the state's socio-economic development, especially investment cooperation in the fields of digital transformation and innovation.
Leaders of the two localities agreed on measures to promote effective cooperation in the coming time, specifically increasing the exchange of high-level delegations, business delegations, investors, and universities of New South Wales state to Hanoi to explore new investment and cooperation opportunities between the two sides.
The two sides should especially promote cooperation programs in the field of education and training, short-term training cooperation for Hanoi's managers and teachers in Australia; coordinate the organization of educational seminars, competitions to learn about Australian education and culture in English in Hanoi; create favorable conditions for Australian investors in Hanoi in the process of establishing and implementing educational activities, support Hanoi schools to build and implement cooperation programs with Australian partners, such as the English program of the state of New South Wales. Promoting cooperation in education is a sustainable foundation for development cooperation between the two localities.

On the same afternoon, the Hanoi delegation had a working session with the Sydney City Council, New South Wales. Deputy Mayor Robert Kok said that the two localities have many similarities in terms of area and population size, with Sydney being a leading city in the field of digital transformation and innovation.

Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong suggested that Sydney send expert delegations to exchange and share experiences with Hanoi in building and developing a creative city and organizing major festivals to attract domestic and foreign tourists to the capital during festivals.

During the working program, the delegation visited and worked with Macquarie University, RMIT University and Google Education.
At the working sessions, the Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee shared the orientation for developing the education system of the capital city of Hanoi in terms of both scale and quality, promoting digital transformation in education and training, accessing advanced education of countries in the region and internationally, contributing to improving people's knowledge, training human resources, nurturing talents; building a learning society, creating a premise for developing a knowledge-based economy, practically serving the requirements of industrialization and modernization of Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general.
The Hanoi leader suggested that the parties continue to study and propose specific cooperation possibilities between educational institutions of New South Wales in training and fostering officials and civil servants of the city, and expand joint training programs between universities of the two localities.

On October 13, the delegation attended and cut the ribbon to open the “Hanoi – Vietnam” Pavilion at the Home Show, a major event in the furniture industry in this Oceania country. The delegation also attended the Conference on connecting trade with Australian businesses organized by the Department of Industry and Trade in coordination with the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia, thereby promoting cooperation opportunities in production, business, and connecting import-export markets between Hanoi and international businesses.

During the working trip, the delegation visited and worked with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Canberra and the Vietnamese Consulate General in Sydney.
