TPO - The Nam Ly Bridge project (Thu Duc City) officially opened to traffic this morning, October 2, immediately resolving the traffic congestion on Do Xuan Hop Street.

On the morning of October 2, the Management Board of Traffic Construction Investment Projects of Ho Chi Minh City (abbreviated as the Traffic Board, the investor) officially opened the Nam Ly Bridge project in Thu Duc City.

Mr. Le Ngoc Hung - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport said that the Nam Ly Bridge construction project (replacing Rach Chiec Dam, Thu Duc City) is a key transport project of Ho Chi Minh City in 2024. The project has a total investment of more than 731 billion VND (of which compensation, support, resettlement, and relocation of technical infrastructure costs more than 252 billion VND, construction and installation costs more than 423 billion VND and other costs).

Nam Ly Bridge opens to traffic, eliminating the "bottleneck" that often causes congestion on Do Xuan Hop Street. In the photo: Do ​​Xuan Hop Street (section through Nam Ly Bridge project) before and after the bridge opened to traffic on the morning of October 2.

The project started in October 2016 and by April 2019, the M2 pier, part of the approach span, main span, drainage system and bypass road on the old District 2 side had been completed, with the total volume reaching about 40% of the contract value. After that, the project had to stop construction pending site handover.

Regarding site clearance, the project has a total of 54 affected cases requiring land acquisition, including 51 households (45 households with partial clearance and 6 households with full clearance) along with 3 organizations.

By April 2023, compensation and site clearance will be completed and handed over to continue construction.

After receiving the handed over site, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Department, together with the construction units and consultants, immediately deployed the work of assembling materials and equipment, preparing the site for construction... Up to now, the bridge and the approach roads at both ends of the bridge have been completed and put into operation.

Nam Ly Bridge is located on Do Xuan Hop Street across Rach Chiec, which plays an important role in the socio-economic development of Thu Duc City in particular and Ho Chi Minh City in general. Regarding roads, the bridge connects Do Xuan Hop Street, which is the axis route through An Phu, Binh Trung Tay, Phuoc Long A, Phuoc Long B, Phuoc Binh wards, serving traffic between neighboring residential areas and connecting Vo Nguyen Giap Street with Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway.

Regarding waterways, Rach Chiec is planned as a level 4 river to ensure the requirements of waterway traffic through Rach Chiec after the opening of the waterway connecting Saigon River - Dong Nai River.

Therefore, the construction of the new Nam Ly bridge is of great significance to the water and road transport of goods and meets the travel needs of people in the area, contributing to economic development and urban beautification in the locality.

After the bridge section opening ceremony today, the leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport said that the residential road section and remaining finishing work will continue to be constructed to complete the entire project in December 2024.

The bridge was scheduled to open to traffic in mid-September but was delayed twice due to prolonged rains affecting the construction progress. The completed project will replace the narrow and degraded Rach Chiec dam bridge and culvert, eliminating the "bottleneck" on Do Xuan Hop Street for many years.

The Nam Ly Bridge construction project is 450m long, including 2 branches, each 20m wide and a 300m long approach road. The project started in 2016. In March 2019, the project had to be temporarily suspended due to land acquisition problems, and will restart in March 2023.

The project has reached more than 95% and is in the final stages of completion to put it into operation and serve the people.

The construction site has about 40 people working all night shifts to keep up with the schedule.

Items such as asphalt pavement on both sides of the bridge approach road, service road, sidewalk paving, and lighting are almost completed.

According to the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Traffic Works of Ho Chi Minh City (Traffic Board), after the opening of traffic, it will continue to build residential roads on both sides of the route and some remaining items to synchronously connect the project in December 2024.
