Despite much speculation and a large number of patents related to the Apple Ring, the latest information about this smart ring may disappoint iFans.
According to Bloomberg expert Mark Gurman, Apple is not currently making an Apple Ring and has no plans to launch this smart ring because it could overshadow the Apple Watch.
Apple has no plans to launch an Apple Ring because it could overshadow the Apple Watch |
Apple has been working on a smart ring for about two decades, or at least rumors have been circulating about it for that long, but it looks like consumers will have to wait even longer. According to Bloomberg , the problem isn't the technology, but the actual marketing strategy.
The Apple Watch still has potential to grow and is dominating the market as well as the health tracking wearable industry. Therefore, Apple has no reason to "hurt" a successful product by launching a similar product that could cause internal competition.
However, Apple is famous for "competing" with its own products, as when they "killed" the iPod line with the iPhone.
Some rumors about the Apple Ring suggest that it could work with the Apple Watch, such as being able to wear the Apple Ring and Apple Watch at the same time to improve the accuracy of heart rate measurements, like the Oura ring (a product of Finland-based health technology company Oura Health) currently does.
According to Apple's patents over the years, there has been research into gesture control, perhaps involving the use of Vision Pro glasses, making the Apple Ring an additional accessory in Apple's ecosystem, rather than replacing another product of the company.
However, if the report is accurate, this would mark Apple’s second major product cancellation in 2024 without any official announcement from the company. Previously, in February 2024, it was reported that the decade-long Apple Car project was also completely canceled.
