Foreign information: Enhancing Vietnam's soft power in the new era

On the evening of December 3, at the Opera House (Hanoi), the Central Propaganda Department, the Steering Committee for External Information Work, Vietnam Television and relevant agencies held the 10th National External Information Awards Ceremony. 109 outstanding works were honored at the Awards Ceremony.

Attending the award ceremony were Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Head of the Steering Committee for External Information Work Nguyen Trong Nghia; Party Central Committee members, alternate members of the Party Central Committee, leaders of central and local ministries, departments, branches, leaders of press and publishing agencies and the award-winning authors.

With nearly 1,300 entries in 10 categories, the 10th National Foreign Information Awards continues to attract the attention and participation of domestic and foreign authors. Through two preliminary and final rounds, the Council of the 10th National Foreign Information Awards has decided to award 109 outstanding works and products, including: 10 First prizes, 20 Second prizes, 30 Third prizes and 49 Encouragement prizes.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia affirmed the important role of foreign information tasks, especially in the new period - the era of national development.

He said that the works submitted to the 10th National Foreign Information Award - 2024 are not only diverse in genre but also rich in content, demonstrating the creativity and responsibility of those working in foreign information.

The outstanding award-winning works have highlighted the image of a dynamic, integrated Vietnam, resilient in overcoming challenges, while affirming the cultural identity and historical traditions of the nation. Through these works, the world not only sees Vietnam’s achievements in economic, cultural, educational, and health development, but also feels the aspiration of the entire Vietnamese people to rise up.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia stated that foreign information work is identified as an important part of the Party's political, ideological and foreign affairs work, state diplomacy and people's diplomacy. This is a regular and long-term task of the entire political system under the leadership of the Party.

In order to meet and successfully complete the tasks of foreign information work in the coming time, the Head of the Central Propaganda Department suggested that first of all, foreign information work needs to continue to be a sharp pioneering force, leading the way, creating the foundation and favorable conditions to help our country firmly enter the new era, the era of the Vietnamese people's rise; it is necessary to closely follow the country's development goals, closely linked to the major strategies of the Party and State with the motto of being proactive, synchronous, creative and effective. At the same time, it is necessary to quickly and sensitively grasp new media trends, build foreign information products that not only accurately reflect reality but also have a forecasting and directional nature, ensuring the good performance of its role and mission, contributing to promoting the relationship between Vietnam and neighboring countries, major countries, strategic partners, comprehensive partners, traditional friends and other important partners in depth and substance.

Besides, it is necessary to promote innovation, encourage activities and initiatives in propaganda and promotion of Vietnam, effectively exploiting the achievements of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

“Foreign information needs to bring national soft power to a new level by positioning Vietnam as an autonomous, confident, self-reliant, self-reliant, proud nation, working with humanity to build an increasingly better world, taking people's lives as the center, taking national comprehensive strength as the basis to write the story of Vietnam in the new era, new era,” Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized.

He also suggested that it is necessary to pay attention to building and nurturing a foreign information force with strong political will, high professional qualifications, professional style, and sharp awareness. This force must be truly improved in quality to match the task, in which the leading role is played by Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, and the team of domestic and foreign press reporters...

“In particular, I hope and place my trust in young people with intelligence, creativity, and enthusiasm as weapons, along with love for their homeland and country, and national pride as assets, to make more positive contributions to foreign information work,” Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia expressed.

He congratulated the authors and groups of authors honored at this year's awards, affirming that the authors and groups of authors not only have outstanding contributions to foreign information work, bringing the image of Vietnam to the world, but are also soldiers on the ideological front, contributing to protecting the Party's ideological foundation and effectively fighting against false and hostile arguments.

He expressed his belief that the Award will continue to have new developments, serving increasingly effectively the work of foreign information, creating a solid foundation for the whole country to enter a new era, the era of the Vietnamese people's rise.
