Recently, some press agencies reported that two fragrant rice varieties ST24 and ST25 enjoy preferential export tax to the EU market. The Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) confirmed that this information is incorrect.
According to the Vietnam Trade Office in Belgium, due to this inaccurate information, recently, some rice exporting enterprises to the EU have raised the issue that ST24 and ST25 rice exported to the EU by enterprises has not yet enjoyed tariff incentives as reported by the press.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, currently, only 9 fragrant rice varieties enjoy tax incentives within the quota when exported to the EU, including: Jasmine85, ST5, ST20, Nang Hoa 9, VD20, RVT, OM4900, OM5451 and Tai Nguyen Cho Dao. These rice varieties enjoy tax incentives according to the agreement within the framework of the implementation of the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement.
After 4 years of implementing this agreement, Vietnam is proposing to adjust the list of fragrant rice exported to the EU to a tax rate of 0%, but up to now, the two sides have not reached a final decision, so no fragrant rice varieties have been added to the list of rice varieties enjoying tax incentives in the export quota to the EU market.
