Heavy rain in Hanoi, many people stuck in the middle of the water

VietNamNetVietNamNet31/07/2023

At 2:30 p.m., after a few dozen minutes of rain, Do Duc Duc Street (Nam Tu Liem District) was deeply flooded. Many people riding motorbikes had to get off and walk.

In many sections, the water was up to the wheels, and some young men tried to accelerate their motorbikes to get through.

Small roads near Pham Hung and Me Tri areas were also affected. Many motorbikes were speeding in the opposite direction, causing waves to hit both sides of the sidewalk.

High water levels on major roads caused many buses to have difficulty.

At the shallowest point, the water is half way up to the motorbike wheel, so women with weak driving skills can only jump down and push it on foot.

At Quan Nhan Street (Thanh Xuan District), although the rain has stopped for a long time, the water level has not receded significantly. People said that because the sewer in Vu Trong Phung Street has been temporarily closed, the water level here is difficult to drain quickly.

At alley 90 Chinh Kinh street and other streets such as Quan Nhan, Nguyen Tuan (Thanh Xuan district), water flooded into alleys and attacked residential areas.

Many street-front houses have had iron and wooden panels installed by residents to prevent water from flooding in.

Viet Anh (Luong The Vinh Secondary School) said on his way home from school that because the flood water was too deep, he had to park his bike at the alley entrance, wait for the water to recede, then come back to take his bike home.

Many motorcyclists trying to pass this section have had their engines stall.

Because of the dark clouds, the sky was already dark even though it was only 4 p.m. A kindergarten teacher in alley 90 Chinh Kinh (Thanh Xuan district) used a broom to sweep and continuously throw water outside. “This street is often flooded when it rains, so when we saw a storm coming, we had to quickly move 20 students to the second floor,” she said.

Water flooded into houses, many shops on Nguyen Tuan street had to temporarily close.

In Xuan Tao area (Bac Tu Liem district), the water is about 50 cm deep, motorbikes cannot move.

They all had to walk through deep flood water.

When seeing heavy rain, many clothing traders on Phan Van Truong street (Cau Giay district) quickly cleaned up and stacked their goods high.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the weather in Hanoi during the first three days of the week (July 31 - August 2) will remain hot and humid in the afternoon, with occasional showers and thunderstorms during the day. The highest temperature will fluctuate slightly around 33-34 degrees Celsius, the lowest will be 27-28 degrees Celsius.
