Pursuant to Article 12 of Decree 59/2022/ND-CP, electronic identification accounts are classified into 2 levels.

Level 1 electronic identification account is an electronic identification account issued to Vietnamese citizens, including the following information: Personal identification number; last name, middle name and first name; date of birth; gender; portrait photo.

The level 1 electronic identification account of a foreigner will contain the following information: Identification number of the foreigner; last name, middle name and first name; date of birth; gender; nationality; number, symbol, date, month, year, type of document and place of issue of passport or international travel document. Portrait photo.

Level 2 electronic identification account is an account created in case the information of the declared individual has been verified by portrait photo or fingerprint matching the information in the National Population Database, Citizen Identification Database, or National Immigration Database.

At the same time, the level 2 electronic identification account is integrated with additional documents, such as: Driver's license, health insurance card, passport...

Level 2 electronic identification account is the highest level of personal identification account.

In addition, Article 11 of Decree 59/2022/ND-CP stipulates that the following subjects will be granted electronic identification accounts: Vietnamese citizens aged 14 years or older; for Vietnamese citizens who are under 14 years old, or are under guardianship... are registered under the electronic identification account of their father, mother, or guardian;

Foreigners aged 14 years or older entering Vietnam; foreigners under 14 years old, or under guardianship... must register under the electronic identification account of their father, mother, or guardian;

Agencies and organizations established or registered to operate in Vietnam.

Currently, many people who have established a level 2 electronic identification account are wondering how long the information about the electronic identification account is stored. Regarding this issue, according to Article 21 of Decree 59/2022/ND-CP, the regulations on information storage in the electronic identification and authentication system are as follows: Information about the electronic identification account is stored permanently in the electronic identification and authentication system.

Historical information about the use of electronic identification accounts is stored in the electronic identification and authentication system for a period of 5 years from the time of account use.

Thus, the storage period of information about the electronic identification account is permanent. Even if the citizen changes or no longer uses that smartphone, all the storage on the VNeID application remains intact.
