Many households boldly invest in raising super meat cattle, bringing high economic efficiency.

In 2011, Ma Sieu’s family, Chu Ru ethnic group, in Ma Bo hamlet, Da Quyn commune, bought a breeding cow for nearly 10 million VND. Thanks to good care and disease prevention, the cow reproduced continuously. After 7 years, Ma Sieu’s herd grew to 12 cows.

In the following years, every year, Mrs. Ma Sieu's family sold 4 to 6 cows, with an average price of about 20 million VND/cow. Currently, Mrs. Ma Sieu has a herd of 23 cows. From a poor household, thanks to raising cows, Mrs. Ma Sieu's family rose out of poverty and the economy developed.

Mrs. Ma Sieu happily said: “Raising cows here is very convenient. In addition to the large grasslands, I also grow grass so the source of food for the cows is guaranteed. Moreover, I just follow the instructions of the agricultural extension officers and the cows grow well. If I didn’t raise cows, it would be difficult to escape poverty. Since I have cows to sell, I have money to take care of my children’s education and living expenses.”

Besides small-scale livestock households, currently in Duc Trong commune, there are many ethnic minority households boldly investing in the direction of farms, closed processes, and even promoting the development of raising super meat cattle with high economic efficiency.

Mr. Dung Minh Truong, Cham ethnic, in Phu Ao village, Ta Hine commune shared: “Raising cows helps my family solve the problem of idle labor. I have been raising cows for 2 years now. Recently, I sold 6 cows for more than 200 million VND. Thanks to raising cows in barns, I can take advantage of the manure to fertilize over 1 hectare of various vegetables.”

Thanks to raising cows, Ma Sieu's family has escaped poverty and developed economically.

It is known that 5 years ago, the total herd of cows in the 3 ethnic minority communes of Duc Trong district, Da Quyn, Ta Nang and Ta Hine, was only over 2,500, but now it has grown to 8,000. Many localities have established cooperatives for raising cows, creating favorable conditions for people in the region to learn and exchange experiences with each other.

Ms. Ma Vuong Nai Huyen, Vice Chairman of Ta Hine Commune People's Committee, said that every year, the commune opens classes to transfer scientific and technical knowledge of cattle raising to the people, instructing them on how to choose breeding cows, build safe barns, and disease prevention measures, especially in the rainy season when cows are susceptible to diseases, and how to prevent them well; maintain and expand the grass growing area to proactively source food. In addition, the local government creates favorable conditions through loans with preferential interest rates so that farmers can invest in cattle raising and expand the scale of cattle raising in the direction of farms.

“In the process of raising cattle, we also recommend that households raising cattle on a large scale and in large numbers must build barns far from residential areas to ensure environmental hygiene… From raising cattle, households have a source of manure to fertilize crops. Thanks to the combination of raising cattle and growing crops, the economic and social life of farmers in ethnic minority areas has developed,” Ms. Huyen shared.
