This information was given by PSSI President Erick Thohir, after Mr. Thohir recently met with President of the World Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino.
Speaking on the official website of PSSI yesterday (April 6), Mr. Erick Thohir said: "Indonesia has avoided heavy sanctions from FIFA, we are not excluded from international football activities."
"FIFA only imposes administrative sanctions. In other words, Indonesian football only receives yellow cards, not red cards," PSSI President Erick Thohir added.
Previously, FIFA stripped Indonesia of the right to host the U20 World Cup finals, just over a month before the tournament was to take place.
The initial reason is said to have come from the fact that some influential figures in Bali (Indonesia) refused to allow the Israeli U20 team to participate in the U20 World Cup in Indonesia.
Later, Mr. Erick Thohir clarified that the reason why Indonesian football was banned from hosting the U20 World Cup was due to the football disaster at Kanjuruhan Stadium (East Java) last year, which killed hundreds of people, and had nothing to do with the Israeli U20 team.
Without a long-term ban from FIFA, Indonesian football will have the opportunity to participate in the upcoming 32nd SEA Games, as well as participate in the Asian Cup, which will start in early 2024.
PSSI President Erick Thohir shared: "I can say this is the grace of the Almighty after the prayers of the Indonesian people, especially from football lovers. We can avoid heavy punishments."
"I tried my best in the meeting and working with FIFA. Indonesian football can compete at the 32nd SEA Games at the end of this month" - Mr. Erick Thohir affirmed.
At the 32nd SEA Games, U22 Indonesia is in Group A with host Cambodia, Myanmar, Philippines and Timor Leste. Meanwhile, Group B has U22 Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Laos. The men's football event of this year's Southeast Asian Games will begin on April 29.
