Negotiators fear the ceasefire in Gaza is at risk of collapsing as Israel and Hamas accuse each other of violating the deal.
Reuters on February 11 quoted two Egyptian security sources as saying that negotiators were worried that the ceasefire agreement would collapse before the first phase was over and that reconciliation efforts were facing serious challenges.
Mediators from Egypt and Qatar reportedly suspended recent ceasefire talks, citing Israel's refusal to comply with the agreement. A Palestinian official involved in the talks said the talks had stalled due to Israel's continued non-compliance and refusal to implement the humanitarian provisions of the agreement. Tel Aviv has not responded to the report.
Hamas says it will stop releasing hostages, accuses Israel of violating ceasefire
The Hamas negotiating delegation said the United States could no longer guarantee the continuation of the ceasefire process, given US President Donald Trump's plans to relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, and mediators postponed talks until they received a clear indication of Washington's intention to continue with the phased deal.
After Hamas announced on February 10 that it would postpone the exchange of hostages and prisoners scheduled for February 15, accusing Israel of violating the agreement, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz counter-claimed that Hamas' announcement violated the terms of the ceasefire.
Mr. Israel Katz added that he had ordered the Israeli military operating in Gaza to be at the highest level of readiness. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also announced that it would postpone the leave of combat soldiers and operational units in the command.
In the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, many people took to the streets to protest on the evening of February 10, blocking roads and demanding that the Israeli government prevent the risk of the ceasefire and hostage release from collapsing.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced that if Hamas does not release the hostages by February 15, he will propose canceling the ceasefire agreement. He said that if Hamas does not release all hostages by 12:00 on February 15, “things will get worse,” according to The Hill .
