The determination of sand sources for the construction of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway is still not meeting the requirements, affecting the project's progress.
The Ministry of Transport has just sent a document responding to voters in An Giang province about the construction progress of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project.

According to the Ministry of Transport, based on the policy approved by the National Assembly, the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway is divided into 4 component projects and assigned to the People's Committees of the provinces and cities: An Giang, Can Tho, Hau Giang, Soc Trang as the competent agencies to organize the implementation.
As a specialized management ministry, the Ministry of Transport has recently coordinated closely with localities, organized inspections, urged investors and contractors to speed up progress, and proposed solutions to remove difficulties arising during project implementation.
With the strong direction of the Prime Minister, the close coordination of ministries, the efforts of localities, investors and contractors, up to now, the project has achieved certain results.
Of which, site clearance and resettlement work reached 99%, construction volume reached about 30%...
However, according to the Ministry of Transport, the progress of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway is still behind schedule due to a shortage of sand materials for roadbed construction.
Currently, the units have only identified a source of about 23 million m3 out of the total project demand of about 29 million m3.
"To meet the required progress, localities are speeding up mining licensing procedures and reviewing and supplementing the missing sand sources, while considering the option of using sea sand in Soc Trang province to build roadbeds.
The Ministry of Transport will continue to closely coordinate with localities to focus on removing difficulties and obstacles in construction material sources, and urge investors and contractors to develop construction plans to compensate for delayed work items of the project," the Ministry of Transport affirmed.
The Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project has a total length of more than 188km, a 4-lane investment scale, and a preliminary total investment of 44,691 billion VND.
The project is divided into 4 independently operated component projects. Of which, component project 1 (57km long) is managed by An Giang province.
Component project 2 (over 37km long) is managed by Can Tho City.
Component project 3 (nearly 37km long) is managed by Hau Giang province.
Component project 4 (over 58km long) is managed by Soc Trang province.
According to plan, the project will be basically completed in 2026 and put into synchronous operation of the entire project in 2027.
