At around 4pm on April 23, a heavy rain accompanied by strong thunderstorms and hail swept through Ba Vi commune, Ba To district. Hail with a diameter of about 0.5cm appeared densely for 40 minutes, accompanied by strong gusts of wind, blowing off the roofs of many houses.

The storm completely blew off the roof of a house in the center of Ba Vi commune.

Initial statistics show that more than 95 households in the commune were affected. Of these, 15 houses were severely damaged (over 80% of the roof area was blown off), 22 houses were severely damaged (over 50%) and 58 houses suffered less severe damage. Not only houses, the Ba Vi Commune People's Committee headquarters, the commune cultural house and villages also had their roofs blown off, and many of the equipment inside was damaged.

The traffic system was severely disrupted. Many large trees fell across National Highway 24 and the roads connecting Ba Vi and Ba Xa communes, causing traffic jams for many hours.

National Highway 24 and the inter-commune roads of Ba Vi and Ba Xa were blocked for many hours due to fallen trees blocking the way.

The People's Committee of Ba Vi commune mobilized local forces to inspect, count the damage and support the people. The fallen trees were promptly repaired to clear the traffic route. The authorities also promptly evacuated 18 households whose houses were severely damaged to safe places, most of whom were arranged to stay with relatives at night.

The work to overcome the consequences is being urgently deployed. The local government has requested the province and relevant agencies to support people to soon stabilize their lives.
