Sacred special flag raising ceremony on both banks of Hien Luong

This is an activity within the framework of the National Marathon Championship organized by Quang Tri province in coordination with Tien Phong Newspaper, towards the 50th anniversary of the complete Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

In his opening speech, journalist Phung Cong Suong, Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper and co-head of the organizing committee, said that the Hien Luong - Ben Hai river banks are an immortal testament to the aspiration for national unification, a tragic song that many Vietnamese people sacrificed their blood and bones to write, "The Triumphal Song", so that today, the Hien Luong - Ben Hai river banks have become a place where the belief in a country rising up in a new era - an era in which the aspiration for national peace is forever engraved in the hearts of every Vietnamese person.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Hoang Nam - Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee - affirmed that the steadfast land of Quang Tri has gone down in history with famous landmarks such as Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, Hien Luong - Ben Hai River, Road 9 - Khe Sanh... This is the place that witnessed the great sacrifices and losses of many generations, and is also a symbol of the eternal desire for peace.

The organization of the Flag Raising Ceremony at the Hien Luong - Ben Hai National Special Relic Site within the framework of Tien Phong Marathon 2025 further enhances the spiritual value of the tournament. This is a journey of gratitude to the past, arousing national pride in each participating athlete.

The 250m2 national flag was spread across the grounds of the Hien Luong - Ben Hai National Historical Site with the meaning of connecting the everlasting solidarity of the Vietnamese people. Photo by Nhu Y

In a solemn atmosphere, the national flag was slowly raised on the flagpole of the Hien Luong - Ben Hai border in the sacred and emotional atmosphere of thousands of athletes, people and tourists.

At the ceremony, delegates observed a minute of silence to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh and the outstanding children of the homeland and country who sacrificed their blood and bones for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
