Reviewing the glorious history of 50 years of liberation, comrade Pham Trong Nhan - Chairman of La Gi Town People's Committee said: La Gi today - Ham Tan (old) - Binh Tuy used to be the last land of the South Central region. During the resistance war against the US, La Gi town was one of the key positions of the military strategic area between the two regions of the Southeast and the provinces of Zone V. On April 19, 1975, Binh Thuan province was liberated, creating new momentum and strength for our army's offensive. From April 21, 1975 to the night of April 22, 1975, our army and people together with the main force attacked and liberated Binh Tuy provincial capital, at the same time mobilizing the people to rise up and liberate the locality. On the morning of April 23, 1975, Binh Tuy province was officially completely liberated.
On September 5, 2005, the Government issued Decree No. 114/2005/ND-CP adjusting the administrative boundaries of Ham Tan district to establish La Gi town and its wards and communes. With the leadership of the town Party Committee, the solidarity of the people, the consensus of the entire political system and the orientations of the province, La Gi has gradually overcome difficulties and achieved important results in many fields. The average income per capita has increased 8 times compared to when it was first established. The economic structure has shifted towards modernization, with the trade and service sector now playing a leading role. The fisheries economy and agricultural and rural infrastructure have developed quite comprehensively. The quality of education and training continues to be improved. Medical activities and people's health care continue to be improved. On January 17, 2018, La Gi urban area was recognized by the Ministry of Construction as a type III urban area, marking an important step forward in the urbanization process.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Do Huu Huy congratulated, acknowledged and commended the efforts, attempts and achievements of the Party Committee, government, army and people of La Gi town in the 50-year journey of construction and development.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized: We are entering a new development stage with many advantages but also facing many difficulties and challenges. Rapid and sustainable growth associated with improving people's lives is one of the most important tasks of all levels and sectors. For La Gi town, when there is no longer a district-level government organization, merging and forming commune and ward-level units, it is necessary to maximize potential; overcome shortcomings and limitations; synchronously deploy solutions, strive to successfully implement the set goals and tasks, becoming an important trade - service - tourism area of the province.
In the coming time, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Party Committee, government and people of La Gi town to continue to unite, strive to compete, and strive to build the homeland to become increasingly prosperous, contributing with the whole country to enter a new era, an era of prosperous and powerful development.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also stated that currently, the entire Party is focusing on implementing a particularly important task, which is streamlining the organizational apparatus, restructuring the staff, and reducing the payroll. This is a revolution for the common development of the country, therefore, La Gi town needs to thoroughly grasp, unify awareness, and act urgently and decisively. At the same time, pay attention to properly resolving personnel policies, stabilizing the organizational apparatus to put into operation immediately after merging communes and wards. In addition, continue to carry out assigned tasks, with the motto "there is still one working day, we must wholeheartedly and wholeheartedly carry out", build the government, build the political system, arrange a team of qualified and capable staff, with enough heart and capacity, to meet the requirements of the tasks in the new situation.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to the officials and people of La Gi town for their outstanding achievements in the construction and socio-economic development of the locality.
