Mr. Vuong Thanh Tung was born in 1960, in a poor family in Luoyang (Henan, China). Since childhood, he was an excellent student, after graduating from high school he was assigned to the local cryptographic agency. Due to work requirements, he had to remember many documents every day, sometimes even up to hundreds of phone numbers.

Although his civil service job was stable, he was still not satisfied. Therefore, in 1979, when China restored the university entrance exam, he decided to try his hand and became the top student in the social sciences department of Luoyang City. This achievement helped him enter the Political Science Department of Peking University (China).

Graduating with honors, he continued his studies for a master's degree at the university. With good achievements during his studies, in 1983, after receiving his master's degree, he was retained by Peking University as a lecturer. During his time working there, he also opened a martial arts class to teach students how to take care of and protect their health.

At that time, his martial arts class attracted the attention of students. According to Sohu , at its peak, the class had more than 2 million students. Thanks to the process of teaching martial arts for several years, he saved 3.5 million yuan (about 12.2 billion VND).

Being an active person, Ms. Truong Mai - a lecturer in the Foreign Language Department of Peking University at that time also joined his martial arts class. Later, the two developed feelings for each other and got married.

Later, the craze for martial arts was gone, he decided to find a new direction in academia, by taking the doctoral exam in Philosophy but failed. Not accepting failure, the following year he switched to taking the doctoral exam in Law, but still no luck. As for his wife, after many years of dedication at the school, she still could not become a full-time lecturer.

Finally, he and his wife quit their jobs at Peking University to live in the mountains. In the eyes of everyone, their decision was no different from "crazy people". Despite family objections, he still spent 200,000 yuan (about 670 million VND) to rent 2,500 acres of hilly land for 50 years to farm and start a self-sufficient life.

In 2004, he and his wife welcomed their first son. Understanding the importance of education, when his son was 3 years old, he began teaching him classical poetry. Although his parents taught him well, because he lived in the mountains and had no contact with outsiders, the boy showed many limitations.

Seeing their son increasingly shy and slow to develop, the couple decided to leave the mountains and move to the city so that their son could have a stable learning environment and be integrated into society. In 2011, the family of three returned to Beijing.

At this time, he contacted a friend who worked at Xinhua News Agency to share his story. As soon as the article was published, his story attracted public attention and received mixed opinions in this country. Returning to the city after a period of hiding, he and his wife ran an organic vegetable business. In his free time, he pursued his passion for writing books.

Asked in a recent interview if he regretted giving up his position as a lecturer at Peking University, he said: "I don't regret spending 11 years experiencing a completely different life. This makes me feel satisfied." "When our son is able to be independent, my wife and I will return to a small village in the mountains to live - a place that will give us peace," he added.
