On the one hand, PC shipments in the fourth quarter of 2023 fell 2.7% year-on-year to 67.1 million units, marking the worst result since the fourth quarter of 2006. On the other hand, IDC expects the PC market to grow this year.
PC market in Q4/2023 witnessed a sharp decline
The fourth quarter of 2023 marked the eighth consecutive quarter of year-over-year declines in PC shipments. The company also posted its worst fourth-quarter results since 2006. Looking at preliminary full-year results, PC shipments are expected to decline 13.9% to 259.9 million units.
Among high-tech products, personal computers have been the category that has experienced the strongest ups and downs in the past four years. In 2024, demand for PCs in the commercial segment will increase due to the end of Windows 10's life cycle. New CPUs that support AI system acceleration will also bring some recovery, while the gaming segment will receive much attention, IDC said.
Looking at the dynamics of the PC market in Q4 2023, Lenovo managed to maintain its leadership position by increasing its market share from 22.5% in the same period last year to 24%, while increasing its shipments by 3.9%. HP was in second place by increasing its share from 19.2% to 20.8% and increasing its shipments by 5.4%. Overall, the global PC market in Q4 decreased by 2.7% compared to Q4 2018, to 67.1 million units.
