On the one hand, PC sales in Q4 2023 fell 2.7% year-on-year to 67.1 million units, marking the worst result since Q4 2006. On the other hand, IDC expects the PC market to grow this year.
The PC market experienced a sharp decline in Q4 2023.
The fourth quarter of 2023 marked the eighth consecutive quarter of year-on-year PC shipments declining. Furthermore, the company reported its worst fourth-quarter performance since 2006. For the full year, preliminary PC sales are projected to fall 13.9% to 259.9 million units.
According to IDC, among high-tech products, personal computers have been the category experiencing the most dramatic ups and downs over the past four years. In 2024, demand for commercial PCs will increase due to the end of Windows 10's lifecycle. New CPUs supporting AI system acceleration will also bring about a certain recovery, while the gaming segment will receive significant attention.
Considering the dynamics of the PC market in Q4 2023, Lenovo managed to maintain its leading position by increasing its market share from 22.5% year-on-year to 24%, while also increasing shipments by 3.9%. HP was in second place, increasing from 19.2% to 20.8% and shipments by 5.4%. Overall, the global PC market in Q4 decreased by 2.7% compared to Q4 of the previous year, to 67.1 million units.
