Desk calendars and block calendars are all integrated with more information on different topics, such as: scenic spots, folk games, homeland and country landscapes, cuisine, festivals... In particular, the mascot of the year of At Ty - the snake is designed and printed delicately and attractively.
Ms. Dam Thi Huong, Head of Thanh Hoa City People's Book Store (Thanh Hoa Book Distribution Joint Stock Company) said: "This year's Tet calendars have been collected and displayed at the store since the beginning of November. The calendars are highly appreciated for their quality and design, and the prices are not much different from last year. In addition to paying attention to each design, focusing on creating a unique mark for each calendar, publishers also focus on innovating the form of large-sized block calendars by using mirrors, inlaying feng shui stones... For small-sized calendars, desk calendars also focus on interactivity, providing additional information about science, literature, art... to attract customers".
We met Mr. Truong Van Phuc, Luong Quan village, Hoang Son commune (Hoang Hoa) at Nhan Dan Book Store in Thanh Hoa city when he was choosing to buy a calendar to hang on Tet holiday. Mr. Phuc shared: "Every year, as soon as the year is about to end, I come here to personally choose and buy a calendar to hang on Tet holiday. Not simply to see the date, Tet calendar for my family is like an indispensable spiritual gift every New Year".
This year, the price of calendars ranges from a few tens of thousands of VND to nearly a million VND, depending on the material of the calendar, suitable for many customers. In order to stimulate consumption, stores, bookstores, and calendar dealers all offer discount programs, from 10-30% for customers. However, at this time, purchasing power is still low.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet, Anh Mai Stationery Company Limited (Thanh Hoa City) said: "This year's calendars have many diverse and eye-catching designs. To attract customers, the company is offering a discount of up to 30% for customers who come to buy calendars directly at the company in the hope of "pushing" purchasing power up in the near future."
Similarly, Viet Ly Bookstore (Thanh Hoa City) has started preparing goods and calendars since September. Up to this point, the bookstore has received orders from agencies and businesses as gifts for customers, partners and employees.
Ms. Khuat Thi Lan, Director of Viet Ly Bookstore, said: “We have had many forms of propaganda and introduction of the Lunar New Year calendar at the bookstore and on social networks. In addition, the bookstore is also running promotional programs, direct discounts of 20-30% to thank customers and “heat up” the market at the end of the year.”
In today's digital age, smart devices such as phones, computers, televisions, watches... are all integrated with calendar viewing features for users to conveniently follow, therefore, people's demand for calendar shopping has decreased, requiring publishers to constantly change the form and design of calendar products, and at the same time have strategies to attract customers to buy calendars.
Although the calendar market is always fluctuating due to its “seasonal” nature, hanging and playing with calendars is still a cultural beauty that many families preserve. For many people, calendars are always an indispensable spiritual gift every time Tet comes and spring comes.
