Overall, the domestic rice market is sluggish and stagnant, retail rice prices have decreased slightly, and export rice prices remain stable.

According to the latest forecast from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), rice production in 2024/25 is expected to increase compared to the September 2024 forecast, mainly due to improved production prospects in India overshadowing the decline in many other countries, particularly Myanmar.

India has officially lifted its export ban on regular white rice, excluding basmati rice.

This decision has led to a sudden increase in the supply of rice to the international market. Our country is one of the countries that has benefited from this ban over the past year and will now have to compete more intensely, especially in large markets such as Africa and Southeast Asia.

The Indian government has set a floor price of $490 per ton for non-basmati white rice exports and reduced the export tax on white rice to 0%, amid rising stockpiles in India and farmers preparing for the new harvest. This move is expected to boost global supply and ease price pressures, following record high rice prices in Asia earlier this year.

Overall, the domestic rice market is sluggish, retail rice prices have decreased slightly, and export rice prices are showing a stable trend.
