At the end of the last session of 2024 (December 31), VN-Index decreased by 5.24 points to 1,266.78 points. However, for the whole year, the VN-Index of the Vietnamese stock market still increased by more than 12%.

In the session of December 31, the trading volume reached more than 480.5 million shares, equivalent to more than 11,560.2 billion VND. The entire floor had 155 stocks increasing in price, 254 stocks decreasing in price and 79 stocks remaining unchanged.
HNX-Index decreased 0.71 points to 227.43 points. Trading volume reached more than 40.4 million shares, equivalent to more than 638.6 billion VND. The entire floor had 76 stocks increasing in price, 80 stocks decreasing in price and 69 stocks remaining unchanged.
UPCOM-Index increased by 0.06 points to 95.06 points. Trading volume reached more than 42.7 million shares, equivalent to more than 674.1 billion VND. The entire floor had 159 stocks increasing in price, 124 stocks decreasing in price and 101 stocks remaining unchanged.
The VN30 basket had 18 stocks decreasing in price, 7 stocks increasing in price and 5 stocks remaining unchanged. HDB decreased by 4.32%, CTG decreased by 2.83%, STB decreased by 2.51%, BVH decreased by 2.5%, PLX and BID both decreased by 1.83%, SSI decreased by 1.51%, POW decreased by 1.23%, SAB decreased by 1.07%, all of which had a very negative impact on the VN-Index.
On the upside, BCM increased by 1.58%, ACB increased by 1.57%, FPT increased by 1.33%, MBB increased by 1.21%, TCB increased by 1.02%. Real estate, insurance, banking, and oil and gas groups were also flooded with red. Most of the remaining stock groups were divided with green and red intertwined.
In addition to domestic investors being cautious, foreign investors returned to net selling today after two previous net buying sessions, creating more pressure on the general market.
Specifically, foreign investors net sold 268 billion VND in the whole market. Accordingly, foreign investors net sold approximately 302 billion VND on HOSE. VCB was the most net sold on this floor, reaching 132 billion VND. Next, BID was net sold 73 billion VND; STB (69 billion VND); HDB (47 billion VND), VHM (46 billion VND).
Foreign investors also net sold about 5 billion VND on HNX, while net buying 39 billion VND on UPCOM market.
Thus, 2024 is a record year of net selling by foreign investors, reaching about 90,000 billion VND, about 4 times higher than in 2023.
