This information was shared at the conference summarizing the organization of the competency assessment exam for the period 2018-2024, the plan for 2024 and the orientation for 2025, organized by the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of November 24.
At the conference, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Director of the Center for Testing and Evaluation of Training Quality (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), stated that from 2025 onwards, the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City's competency assessment exam will continue to be implemented in a stable manner, based on the foundation of the previous phase. At the same time, the exam will be adjusted to suit the changes in the 2018 General Education Program.
Specifically, the exam will continue to be conducted using the objective multiple-choice test method on paper, organized simultaneously in multiple locations to facilitate participation for candidates. The exam structure has been adjusted to align with the 2018 General Education Program.
According to Dr. Chinh, in order to determine the content structure of the exam that is suitable for the 2018 General Education Program, since the end of 2022, the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City has carried out many professional activities with the participation of education experts and many stakeholders.
Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh delivered a speech outlining the direction for the competency assessment exam starting in 2025.
Based on that, Dr. Chinh stated that the structure of the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's competency assessment exam from 2025 onwards will still consist of three parts: language use; mathematics, logical thinking and data analysis; and problem-solving.
"The adjustments compared to the current exam focus primarily on the problem-solving section. Candidates will be able to choose 3 out of 6 problem groups to solve during the exam. Candidates can randomly select any 3 out of 6 groups," Dr. Chinh stated.
According to the draft structure for the competency assessment exam starting in 2025, the exam will consist of three parts:
- Part 1 uses both Vietnamese and English, and candidates answer all questions.
- In Part 2, candidates answer all questions on mathematics, logic, and data analysis.
- Part 3 involves problem-solving, where candidates can choose to answer questions from 3 out of 6 subject areas: physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, education, economics , and law.
Thus, compared to the previous structure of the competency assessment test, the test structure from 2025 onwards will include a new group of fields related to economic and legal education. This is also a new content that appeared in the 2018 General Education Program.
The draft structure for the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's aptitude test starting in 2025 is as follows:
According to information shared at the workshop, starting in September of this year, the team of experts from the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City has been developing a question bank matrix and sample exam papers based on the new guidelines.
"In December, the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City will organize workshops to gather feedback from stakeholders to finalize the exam structure, question bank matrix, and sample test. The official exam structure will be submitted for approval and issued in early 2024," Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh further informed.
The National University of Ho Chi Minh City's aptitude test was first held in 2018, aiming to select students with strong abilities, aligning with its holistic education philosophy. The test focuses on assessing key competencies for university studies, such as language skills, logical thinking, data processing, and problem-solving. Last year, the test attracted over 100,000 candidates from 1,815 high schools, and 97 universities and colleges used the results for admissions.
