The above information was shared at the conference summarizing the organization of the competency assessment exam for the period 2018-2024, the plan for 2024 and the orientation for 2025, organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University on the afternoon of November 24.
At the conference, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Director of the Center for Testing and Training Quality Assessment (Ho Chi Minh City National University), said that from 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam will continue to be implemented in a stable development direction, based on the foundation of the previous stage. At the same time, the exam will have adjustments to suit the changes of the 2018 General Education Program.
Specifically, the exam will continue to be implemented in the form of objective multiple-choice tests on paper, organized simultaneously in many localities to create favorable conditions for candidates to participate. The exam structure is adjusted to suit the 2018 General Education Program.
Dr. Chinh said that in order to determine the structure of the exam content in accordance with the 2018 General Education Program, since the end of 2022, Ho Chi Minh City National University has carried out many professional activities with the participation of education experts and many stakeholders.

On that basis, Dr. Chinh said that the structure of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam from 2025 will still include 3 parts: language use; mathematics, logical thinking and data analysis; problem solving.
"The adjustment compared to the current test focuses mainly on the problem-solving part. Candidates will be given the choice to do 3 out of 6 problem groups during the test. Candidates can randomly choose any 3 out of 6 groups," Dr. Chinh said.
According to the draft structure of the competency assessment exam from 2025, the exam consists of 3 parts:
- Part 1 uses Vietnamese and English, candidates do all questions.
- In Part 2, candidates do all questions on mathematics, logic and data analysis.
- Part 3 is problem solving, candidates are selected to do questions in 3 groups out of 6 groups of fields including: physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, economic education and law.
Thus, compared to the previous capacity assessment test structure, the test structure from 2025 will have the appearance of a new group of fields related to economic and legal education. This is also new content appearing in the 2018 General Education Program.

According to information shared at the workshop, since September this year, the team of experts from Ho Chi Minh City National University has been developing a question bank matrix and sample exam papers according to the new orientation.
"In December, Ho Chi Minh City National University will organize workshops to collect opinions from relevant parties to finalize the exam structure, question bank matrix and sample exam. The official exam structure will be submitted for approval and issued in early 2024," Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh added.
The Ho Chi Minh City National University Competency Assessment Test was first held in 2018, with the goal of selecting students with good abilities, in line with the comprehensive education philosophy. The test aims to assess candidates' important abilities for university study such as: language use, logical thinking, data processing, problem solving... Last year, the test attracted more than 100,000 candidates from 1,815 high schools to participate and 97 universities and colleges used the test results for admission.
