The above question was answered in an online TV consultation program with the topic "What to do if you have not passed the first round?" on the afternoon of September 6. The program was broadcast live on the following platforms: thanhnien.vn , Facebook.com/thanhnien, YouTube channel and TikTok of Thanh Nien Newspaper.
Sending a question to the program, candidate Dang Tran Nguyen (Quang Nam) asked: "I have confirmed online admission on the Ministry of Education and Training's admission system. But recently I read information that the university is considering additional admission for the medical major, I want to participate in the admission. The online confirmation deadline has not yet expired. Can I change my admission confirmation to participate in the additional admission? If I cannot change the online confirmation, can I still submit an application for additional admission with my academic transcript?"
Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, Vice Principal of Duy Tan University, explained that after 5:00 p.m. on September 8, candidates who do not confirm their admission online will be considered to have refused admission. In case they have confirmed their admission on the system but do not come to complete the admission procedures according to the school's admission letter, the candidate will be classified as having refused admission. The university will update the entire list of these candidates on the system. At that time, candidates who do not enroll will be removed from the list of candidates admitted in the first round and will have to be re-admitted from the beginning in the additional round.
Master Pham Doan Nguyen, Vice Principal of the University of Economics and Finance, Ho Chi Minh City, also said that according to the regulations, students have the right to refuse admission, but this should be carefully considered. Master Nguyen said: "If you have been admitted in the first round but do not confirm your admission to wait for the opportunity to consider additional admission, and if you are unfortunately not admitted in the additional round, you will no longer have the opportunity to return to confirm your admission in the first round. Therefore, confirming admission is an important matter that candidates need to consider carefully."
Dr. Vo Thanh Hai informed that the number of candidates admitted to the first choice at schools accounts for 50% while the number of candidates applying later is decreasing. There is a candidate with 23 points but did not pass the medical program but passed the first round of nursing, the candidate has the right to refuse to be re-admitted in the additional round.
According to Dr. Hai, candidates who register for additional admission will fall into the following cases: not admitted, admitted incorrectly, or not registered for the first round of admission. Candidates should also note that the standard scores for the additional rounds of previous years are often equal to or higher than the first round.
Dr. Vo Thanh Hai has a special note for candidates after September 8. For candidates who do not confirm their admission on the Ministry of Education and Training system, it is considered that they have given up their admission. For candidates who have confirmed their admission on the system but have not completed the admission procedures at the university, if there is a valid reason, they need to contact the schools directly for consideration and resolution. For example, there are candidates who have not received the admission notice, have not received the military service deferment notice, etc.
Master Pham Doan Nguyen also shared: "Currently, there are candidates who are worried about whether they will still have the opportunity to enroll in the major they passed in the first round if they do not pass the supplementary round. In previous years, candidates who did not pass the supplementary round could still apply for admission to the schools they passed in the first round. This year, this will probably be very limited in universities."
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance is accepting applications for additional admissions to all training programs of the school. The school will consider admissions based on academic records until September 12. Similarly, Duy Tan University also announced additional admissions to many majors, including health sciences such as: medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, etc.
"It can be said that this is the last admission round in 2023 of the school. Regardless of the method of admission, round 1 or additional round, candidates still study the same training program. However, when considering additional activities at the beginning of the course, guiding new students, the program can be shortened compared to students admitted in round 1," Dr. Hai added.
