What should candidates note when registering for the high school graduation exam?

The 2025 high school graduation exam is the first exam to be held under the new 2018 General Education Program. In addition, the university and college admission regulations also have many new points, so when registering for the exam, candidates need to clearly understand the regulations to avoid affecting their rights later when taking the exam and applying for admission.

According to the Department of Education and Training (DET), the 2025 high school graduation exam will have over 35,000 candidates in the province, not including independent candidates. This is also the exam with the largest number of candidates in recent years.

Many changes when registering for the exam

To ensure that candidates registering for the graduation exam have complete information, the Department of Education and Training has organized a Training Conference related to the exam for principals of high schools and continuing education centers in the province. Currently, candidates have logged into the exam management system to register for the mock exam from April 15 to 18. While waiting for the official registration date, from April 21 to 28, schools continue to require students to prepare information in advance so that when registering for the exam, they do not miss or confuse information.

At a recent online conference with local departments of education and training, the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training) noted that before registering for the exam on the exam management system, candidates must carefully read the items and instructions to avoid errors and confusion. Because the registration information must be accurate, candidates must ask their homeroom teachers for detailed instructions for any unclear points. Candidates will be responsible for all information registered on the system, and will not even have the opportunity to correct errors.

Milestones to note when registering for the 2025 high school graduation exam:

- From April 21 to 28: Candidates register for the exam online on the exam management system of the Ministry of Education and Training.

- From April 28 to May 9: Departments of Education and Training review candidates' reserved scores.

- No later than May 13: Units receiving registration documents will print the list of candidates registered for the exam and hand over the registration form to the candidates.

- From May 16 to 20: Need to complete information editing, if any.

Each candidate is only given one account, so it is important to keep information confidential. Once information is given, the password must be changed immediately. Remember the password that has been given to avoid wasting time contacting for re-issuance, affecting the psychology of preparing for the exam. Candidates also need to note that the account given is not only used once for the high school graduation exam but also when registering for university and college admission.

Chu Manh Hoai, Head of the General Education and Continuing Education Department of the Department of Education and Training, noted that when registering for the exam, candidates need to have a portrait photo file, similar to the photo taken for the citizen identification card. The size of this photo file has a minimum resolution of 400x600 pixels, and the photo must be taken no more than 6 months before the exam registration time. Candidates need to pay special attention, from the time of registering for the exam, registering for university admission, candidates must use a unified type of identification document. It is necessary to avoid using a citizen identification card when registering for the exam, but using an identification code or passport when applying for admission. Candidates should use a unified citizen identification card when registering for the exam and applying for university admission, to have unified data.

Avoid confusing elective subjects

Candidates taking the high school graduation exam according to the 2018 General Education Program, according to the 2025 High School Graduation Exam Regulations, can only register for subjects among the subjects they are studying in grade 12. Therefore, during the registration process, candidates must note to register for only 2 subjects among the subjects they have chosen, and have their academic results in their grade 12 transcripts. Candidates are not allowed to register for subjects that are not on the list. For example, candidates who do not study English as an elective subject do not register for this subject.

According to some high schools, although the registration for elective subjects in previous years' exams was publicized and instructed quite carefully by the school before registration, and even printed out the list for candidates to confirm, there were still candidates who registered incorrectly. For example, candidates registered for the Natural Science elective exam but mistakenly registered for the Social Science elective subject. Some candidates mistakenly registered for the elective subject, and had no chance to adjust, so they had to take the subject they had chosen incorrectly. This would be very disadvantageous for them, easily leading to failure in high school graduation.

In addition, in previous years' exams, candidates also made some mistakes when registering for university admission. These mistakes often affect the students' direct rights and the school must pay attention to provide careful instructions when officially registering. For example, in previous years, some candidates mistakenly entered the gender box and selected the priority area box. Many students, although wishing to register for university admission, left the university admission box blank. This shows that they only wish to take the exam to graduate from high school, which will greatly affect their university admission rights.
