On the morning of April 19, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh inspected the operation of Terminal T3, Tan Son Nhat Airport; attended the announcement ceremony and performed the ceremony to pilot the application of electronic identification, authentication and biometric recognition for boarding procedures - an important project inaugurated on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
Also attending were Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen; leaders of central ministries, branches and Ho Chi Minh City.
T3 is the largest domestic passenger terminal in the country, with a capacity of 20 million passengers/year, bringing the total operating capacity of Tan Son Nhat airport to 50 million passengers.
The project has a total investment of nearly VND11,000 billion, officially starting construction at the end of 2022, in which the main package - construction of the passenger terminal - starts from August 2023.
The project includes 1 basement, 4 floors above ground, with a total floor area of 112,500 m2 . The four main items include a passenger terminal, a high-rise parking lot combined with services, a flyover system and an aircraft parking lot.
The terminal has 27 gates; 6 departure baggage handling islands and 10 arrival baggage claim islands.
With the attention, regular direction, urging, removing obstacles, and promoting the project from the Government and the Prime Minister, after more than 2 years of rapid construction, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the complete liberation of the South and national reunification, Terminal T3 was officially inaugurated and put into operation.
According to Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long, Deputy Minister of Public Security, the application of electronic identification, authentication and biometric recognition for boarding procedures at Terminal T3 helps passengers complete the entire paperless boarding procedure, digitize all passenger documents and perform operations from booking tickets to checking in online, helping to save time and ensure aviation security.
Speaking at the announcement ceremony of the pilot implementation of the solution for applying electronic identification, authentication and biometric identification to serve boarding procedures at Terminal T3, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the implementation of the application for electronic identification, authentication and biometric identification to serve boarding procedures at Terminal T3 practically responds to and implements Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation, and national digital transformation; as well as Resolution 59-NQ/TW dated January 24, 2025 of the Politburo on international integration in the new situation for Vietnam to catch up, move forward and take the lead.
At the same time, it is also implementing 3 strategic breakthroughs identified by the Party and State as institutional breakthroughs, infrastructure breakthroughs and human resource training, serving the country's 3 goals: stability, development and improvement of the material and spiritual life of the people.
The Prime Minister commended the Ministries of Construction, Public Security, National Defense, Party Committee, government, army and people of Ho Chi Minh City and related ministries and branches for rapidly implementing the construction and inauguration of the spacious, modern and smart Terminal T3; effectively implementing digital transformation, taking people and businesses as the center and subject; reducing costs, reducing time and combating waste and negativity.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of Vietjet Air's Board of Directors, the first passengers to experience full-process biometrics - facial check-in thanks to the integration between Vietjet app, VNeID and the biometric recognition system at the airport - not only revolutionizes the passenger experience, but also helps shorten millions of hours of check-in procedures per year, bringing economic value of up to tens of thousands of billions of VND per year to the economy.
