Embroidering Vietnam-China friendship through traditional ao dai

The activity aims to contribute to honoring the value of Vietnamese Ao Dai in life, culture and society; at the same time, arouse love, pride and responsibility to preserve and promote the value of Ao Dai heritage. Through Ao Dai, promote the image , culture, country and people of Vietnam, so that Ao Dai culture is increasingly attached and spread in the spiritual life of Vietnamese people and international friends.

The program was organized by the Vietnamese Business Community in China, with the participation of the wife of the Vietnamese Ambassador to China, the wife of the Vietnamese Consul General in Guangzhou and a large number of Vietnamese people in China.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Loan, representative of the Vietnamese Business Community in China, Head of the Program Organizing Committee, highlighted the value and beauty of Vietnamese Ao Dai - a national intangible cultural heritage. According to Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Loan, Ao Dai has a long history of development, always accompanying and closely associated with the lives of Vietnamese people. Ao Dai contains the beauty and creativity of Vietnamese people, each Ao Dai carries the national soul and quintessence of the nation.

Throughout history, the Ao Dai has been preserved and strongly developed. This is the crystallization of the intelligence and creative labor of the Vietnamese people, highlighting the gentle, elegant beauty and spirit of the Vietnamese people.

Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Loan emphasized that the event is not only a simple fashion show but also demonstrates the solidarity of businesses, overseas Vietnamese students and overseas Vietnamese in China, connecting the feelings of compatriots with their homeland, and at the same time strengthening the friendship between the people of the two countries in the meaningful Vietnam-China Cultural Exchange Year 2025.

"Each Ao Dai fluttering in the wind today will be a golden thread tightening community solidarity, further enhancing the Vietnam-China friendship. Wishing the friendship between the people of the two countries to last forever, wishing the Ao Dai culture will continue to shine on every road in the world !", Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Loan expressed her confidence.

At the event, the audience was able to admire the unique Ao Dai collections from leading designers, such as designer Tuan Sanh, designer Han Phuong; Dinh Lang Viet Club... by more than 84 contestants from the "Ao Dai through photos" contest that was held enthusiastically in the Vietnamese community in China before.

Each contestant, who are also Vietnamese students and overseas Vietnamese studying and living in China, wearing traditional costumes, has become a cultural ambassador, further strengthening the friendship between the two countries.

The program opened with three collections of traditional Ao Dai with floral motifs that carry the breath, the scent of Spring and the national spirit, named: Spring Fragrance, Spring Sunshine, and Spring Colors by designer Tuan Sanh. Each Ao Dai in the collection is hand-cut and sewn individually on soft snow silk fabric, the details after cutting are meticulously hand-sewn such as the skirt, cuffs and collar. The floral motifs are hand-embroidered by artisans, breathing life into each needle and thread so that each petal and leaf after embroidery will be so lifelike that it captivates people's hearts.

Next is the collection of five-panel men's ao dai from Dinh Lang Viet Club. The five-panel ao dai appeared in 1744 under the reign of Lord Nguyen Phuc Khoat in Dang Trong, the predecessor of today's modern men's ao dai. Men often wear the ao dai combined with a black or dark-colored head scarf. Once widely used and considered the national costume of the Vietnamese people, this costume exists and develops along with many other types of traditional clothing in the community of Vietnamese ethnic groups.

The show concluded with the collection "Vietnamese Traditional Ao Dai" by designer Han Phuong, bearing the cultural imprint of the ethnic groups representing 54 ethnic groups. The graceful Ao Dai, delicately designed with motifs of dragons, phoenixes, lotuses, bronze drums, etc., cleverly honored the traditional beauty of Vietnamese women, while also demonstrating the cultural exchange of East Asia.

Each design and the Ao Dai is a delicate combination of traditional silk material with unique design ideas and skilled stitches of Ao Dai artisans, reflecting the ancient culture bearing the mark of time while still bringing a breath of fresh air, conveying a new message of Vietnam in the era of development.

The program was held in the warm spring weather, with flowers blooming, at the foot of the Great Wall. The combination of Vietnamese Ao Dai in the space of China's famous wonder spread the message of borderless cultural exchange, creating a connection of heritage through Vietnamese Ao Dai.

At the event, the audience also enjoyed special performances imbued with traditional culture. On the sidelines of the event, there were also group activities to visit and exchange at the Great Wall.

Through unique cultural exchange activities, the program has contributed to strengthening the spirit of solidarity and patriotism of the Vietnamese community in China, while also highlighting the Vietnam-China friendship in a particularly meaningful year.
