In recent months, the Tunisian leader has ordered the dismissal of several ministers, including the Foreign Minister. Even Prime Minister Najla Bouden Romdhane was removed from office on August 1st.
These moves come as Tunisia is experiencing an unprecedented economic and financial crisis. According to official figures, inflation reached 9.3% in August and growth in the second quarter did not exceed 0.6%.
With debt equivalent to approximately 80% of its GDP, Tunisia is attempting to negotiate with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a $2 billion loan to cover its budget deficit.
According to Investing , Tunisia's economy is experiencing a recession due to a series of political crises following the Arab Spring protests. At the same time, soaring food prices due to the conflict in Ukraine are also destabilizing the domestic market and negatively impacting consumer spending.
