The above information was announced by a representative of the National Expanded Immunization Program at a workshop on expanded immunization held today, April 21, in Hue City.
Regarding other vaccines in the national expanded immunization program, in 2024, the whole country will have more than 1.25 million children under 1 year old fully vaccinated, reaching a rate of 96.3%, exceeding the set plan (from 90%).
However, in the group of children under 1 year old, the injection/oral vaccination rates for newborn hepatitis B, oral polio (OPV3) and injectable polio (IPV2) vaccines have not met the requirements. The newborn hepatitis B vaccination within the first 24 hours only reached 85.7%, not meeting the target (from 90%).
Vaccinations for school-going children
According to the National Expanded Immunization Program, the vaccine to prevent diarrhea caused by rotavirus (Rotavin) will be deployed for the first time from 2024, and currently, most localities have met progress requirements.
Of the 156,130 doses administered, no serious reactions were reported. Mild reactions included vomiting (0.12%), mild fever (0.05%), and diarrhea (0.06%). For provinces that have implemented the vaccine early, the health sector recommends screening children aged 2 to under 6 months to ensure that each child receives two doses of Rotavin vaccine. This vaccine prevents dangerous infectious diseases caused by the rotavirus.
According to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (Ministry of Health), in 2025, localities will continue to vaccinate children, focusing on reviewing vaccination history for children entering preschool and primary school; helping to control the risk of outbreaks in schools.
The procedures to be completed include: collecting information, making lists, checking data at schools and health stations, organizing vaccinations and reporting results. The health sector also proposed allocating funds for monitoring infectious diseases such as measles, whooping cough, polio, diphtheria, Japanese encephalitis, etc. to promptly respond when an epidemic occurs.
