HAGL welcomes 'old man'
On January 21, HAGL Club welcomed the return of Washington Brandao, a foreign player who was with the mountain town team in the period 2021 - 2023. The Brazilian striker signed a contract with HAGL after passing a medical examination this morning.
Brandao played for HAGL for 3 seasons before. Although he only scored 7 goals in 53 matches in the V-League, which is not an impressive number for a foreign player, Brandao played a very important role in the game. When coach Kiatisak Senamuang was in charge, Brandao played the role of a withdrawn striker. He moved wide to support the ball deployment, giving his teammates space to penetrate the penalty area.
Washington Brandao returns to HAGL
Brandao, along with Van Toan and Cong Phuong, formed a harmonious attacking trio in the 2021 season, when Coach Kiatisak's HAGL topped the V-League after 12 rounds (before the tournament was canceled due to the pandemic). Then in the 2022 season, HAGL only finished sixth in the V-League, but impressed when they won 5 points in the AFC Champions League despite being in a group with many strong teams such as Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors of Coach Kim Sang-sik, Yokohama F. Marinos, Sydney FC.
Brandao scored points with the HAGL coaching staff with his professional style, meticulousness and energetic playing style. Technical Director Vu Tien Thanh shared: "When we heard the news of Brandao's return, 100% of the coaches and players supported him. I hope Brandao will soon integrate into the team's playing style and will help the team play well in the future." Currently, HAGL has 3 foreign players, including Brandao, Jairo Rodrigues and Marciel da Silva.
HAGL dropped to eighth place in the V-League after a 2-2 draw with Ho Chi Minh City FC in round 10. In round 11 at 7:15 p.m. on January 24, coach Le Quang Trai and his team will face Hanoi FC at Hang Day Stadium.
