The Vietnam national team and U23 national team are in the preparation stage for major tournaments in 2025, including the second round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers and the 33rd SEA Games.

However, competing at such a high frequency has caused many players to get injured, leaving open the possibility of them joining the team in the upcoming international tournament.

Aymeric Faurand-Tournaire

Recently, besides the naturalization of foreign players with high professional quality, the source of overseas Vietnamese players who desire to return to Vietnam to compete is also quite large.

Viktor Le and Andrej Nguyen An Khanh have just played for the Vietnam U23 team, playing outstandingly in the U23 friendly tournament in China.

Coach Kim Sang-sik will have more options from overseas Vietnamese players when two strikers Aymeric Faurand-Tournaire (21 years old) and Chung Nguyen Do (19 years old) have impressive performances for their clubs in Europe.

Aymeric was born in France, with a Vietnamese mother. The Vietnamese-American player has an impressive height (1.81m), plays versatilely as a striker and midfielder, and is playing for Laval Club (Ligue 2). In the early morning of April 15, Aymeric Faurand-Tournaire left his mark with an assist to help his teammate score in round 30 of Ligue 2.

The first contribution in the second highest professional league in France is an important step forward for Aymeric since being promoted to the first team in November 2024. This player born in 2004 not only affirms his potential but also opens up the opportunity to be called up by coach Kim Sang-sik to the Vietnam U22 team to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games, scheduled to take place in December 2025 in Thailand.

Chung Nguyen Do (left)

Meanwhile, Chung Nguyen Do scored his first goal in the Bulgarian Premier League, when he played in the match between Slavia Sofia and Botev Vratsa in round 29 on April 14. At the age of 19, Chung has played 23/29 matches for Slavia Sofia in the 2024-2025 season, and is a promising midfielder who can recover the ball and control the game.

The midfielder was born in 2005 in Sofia (Bulgaria) and his parents are both Vietnamese. Chung started his football career at the age of 6, at the CSKA Sofia academy, before moving to Slavia Sofia.

In the summer of 2022, Barcelona Club paid attention to Chung Nguyen Do and in January 2023, he was promoted to the first team of Slavia Sofia FC, playing in the highest level professional league in Bulgaria.

These two overseas Vietnamese players both wish to return to Vietnam to contribute to the national team and are fully eligible for naturalization if they catch the eye of coach Kim Sang-sik.
