Three more Vietnamese officers join the United Nations peacekeeping force

On April 8, in Hanoi, the Ministry of National Defense held a ceremony to hand over the President's Decision and the Minister of National Defense's Decision to three officers on UN peacekeeping missions at the following missions: MINUSCA (Central African Republic), UNMISS (Republic of South Sudan) and UNISFA (Abyei region).

The decision-making ceremony was chaired by Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien - Deputy Minister of National Defense, Head of the interdisciplinary working group, Head of the Ministry of National Defense's Steering Committee on participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations.

The three officers who will be on this mission include: Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Sy Hieu, former lecturer of the Department of Aviation Weapons, Faculty of Aviation Engineering, Air Defense - Air Force Academy, was sent to work as a Military Observer at the MINUSCA mission (Central African Republic). Major Nguyen Thi Thanh Loan, former lecturer of the Department of Information Technology, Faculty of Information Technology - Foreign Languages, Army Academy, was sent to work as a Logistics Staff Officer at the UNISFA mission (Abyei region). Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Tien Long, former Assistant to the Mass Mobilization Department, Political Department, Command of Region 4, Navy, was sent to work as a Military Observer at the UNMISS mission (South Sudan).

Speaking at the assignment, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien requested that immediately after arriving at the mission, the three officers need to quickly grasp the local situation, get to work immediately, perform well the assigned duties and tasks; strengthen research work, improve the ability to analyze, advise and forecast the situation.

Along with that, officers need to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the viewpoints and foreign policies of the Party, State and Army; strictly comply with the discipline of the Vietnam People's Army, regulations of the United Nations, laws of the host country, regulations to ensure security and safety of people, weapons and equipment; always ensure military style while performing tasks.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien also requested the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department to continue researching and promoting the expansion of activities, forms, scales and areas of participation; coordinate with relevant agencies to complete the legal corridor and policy basis for participation in UN peacekeeping activities. Continue to pay attention to improving foreign language skills, research the ability to deploy forces to take command positions at missions...

To date, Vietnam has sent nearly 800 officers and staff to participate in UN peacekeeping operations at 03 missions and the UN Headquarters. The Vietnam Peacekeeping Department is actively preparing to deploy 01 more position at the UN Headquarters and send personnel to apply for the position of Commander of the Military Police Force at the Central African Republic Mission according to the United Nations Invitation.

According to the assessment of the Mission Commander and the functional agencies of the United Nations, the officers and soldiers of the Vietnamese People's Army have made great efforts in performing the UN peacekeeping mission, demonstrating professionalism, discipline and leaving many good impressions on the Mission Commander, international friends and colleagues with specific, practical and highly humane contributions.
