Although the achievements were not as good as those of the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam, the silent contributions of the coaches and athletes of Binh Duong to the overall achievements of the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 32nd SEA Games helped us win the first place overall at a Southeast Asian Games not held on home soil for the first time.
Chess player Lai Ly Huynh will go even further in the future after the gold medal at SEA Games 32.
Closing the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnamese sports delegation won the overall title with 136 gold medals, 105 silver medals and 114 bronze medals. Of these, Binh Duong athletes contributed to the overall achievement with 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals and 6 bronze medals. Binh Duong Sports participated in the tournament with 17 members including 3 coaches and 14 athletes. Of which, there were 10 excellent athletes, competing with great effort and dedication, contributing to bringing home valuable medals for Binh Duong sports in particular and Vietnamese sports in general.
Among these, the most impressive is the gold medal of chess player Lai Ly Huynh in the men's individual standard chess event. The achievements of this veteran player have helped him get closer and closer to the international arena. This is the basis for Lai Ly Huynh to aim for higher achievements at the 2023 ASIAD taking place in Hangzhou, China next September. Not only that, Lai Ly Huynh's gold medal also helps promote the development of the chess movement in Binh Duong. Now, at community sports venues and coffee shops, we can easily see chess matches of amateur players. There, when mentioning the name Lai Ly Huynh, they all know the person who just brought home the gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 32nd SEA Games.
In addition to the above gold medals, Binh Duong coaches and athletes also contributed significantly to the overall achievements of the Khmer martial arts and karate teams. In particular, two coaches Truong Ngoc Hieu (Khmer) and Nguyen Thanh Duy (karate) made silent contributions on the coaching bench, thereby helping the two Vietnamese martial arts teams successfully complete the set targets at the 32nd SEA Games (Khmer 5 gold medals, karate 6 gold medals). In particular, two martial artists Duong Duc Bao and Phan Thi Bich Lieu won 2 silver medals and Truong Cao Minh Phat brought home 1 bronze medal. This is a very commendable effort of Binh Duong Khmer martial artists. Because this is a new martial art, the martial artists have only practiced for less than a year, but together they overcame difficulties and completed the target.
Meanwhile, in petanque, under the guidance of coach Vu Khang Duy, two athletes Trinh Thi Kim Thanh and Tran Thi Diem Trang won two bronze medals. Although this achievement is not as good as when both won gold medals at the 2022 National Sports Festival, the medal in the regional arena is a premise for Binh Duong petanque to go further in the future. There are many reasons to explain why Binh Duong athletes' achievements have not been as expected. But anyway, with their own efforts, Binh Duong coaches and athletes have overcome difficulties, contributed to the overall achievement, helping the Vietnamese sports delegation win the overall first place.
With the above contributions, this afternoon (May 30), at the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center, the provincial leaders and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a ceremony to commend and reward Binh Duong coaches and athletes for their achievements at the 32nd SEA Games. This is a recognition commensurate with what the province's coaches and athletes have contributed to the overall achievements of the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 32nd SEA Games.
