The film Where Dreams Return deals with the generational conflict between a wealthy, domineering grandmother (People's Artist Le Khanh) and her stubborn, playboy grandson Gia An (Lanh Thanh). Although it has not been on air for long, the film has received mixed reviews from the audience.
Not only was the film criticized for its uncreative script and overly rigid, sometimes derogatory, character dialogue, it was also judged to be poorly cast.
Specifically, the main character Gia An is a young rich kid who has just returned from studying abroad and has a liberal, free-spirited mindset and likes to be pampered. This role is played by "big screen male god" Lanh Thanh.
It's just a pity that the beautiful image that Lanh Thanh built in the MV and previous movies was not highly appreciated in the movie Where Dreams Come Back . The actor's weakness in his strong local accent and his not really suitable style caused Lanh Thanh to receive many mixed comments:
"What kind of young master looks worse than the driver", "With such a country accent, he plays Gia An", "This role should have been given to Trong Lan", "There's no young master's aura at all", "Suggest changing the actor, just hearing the voice makes me not want to watch", "The male lead is boring, bland and even country, too forced"...
In the face of mixed comments, Lanh Thanh has remained completely silent. However, the actor recently shared on his personal page that a group of people have set up "boycott clubs" to boycott him.
Faced with the incident, Lanh Thanh borrowed the words of his grandmother to explain: "Grandma, I read the comments in some groups and pages and saw that many people were inciting and boycotting me. From a work perspective, I was successful.
It's okay, I'm also a vegetarian, so people can bleach it however they want. Just turn on the TV every night and watch me perform."
Although he affirmed that he only needed to receive support from his relatives, Lanh Thanh could not help but feel bitter at the harsh comments: "It took so many years to realize the goal, being famous or not is no longer important, as long as you turn on the TV and watch the movie I act in, that's enough.
The world out there is harsher than a plate of salted eggplant or a bowl of crab soup, grandma. At 30 years old, I still feel like a 10-year-old kid to society."
Faced with the heavy feelings of the actor, many colleagues came to comfort him. Actress Viet Hoa - Lanh Thanh's co-star in Where Dreams Come Back encouraged: "Always working hard and trying for your loved ones is already a success" , Binh An also shared: "With hard work, iron can be turned into needles, my friend. Keep it up".
