On the morning of April 24, the Central Lung Hospital announced that it had successfully replaced the hip joint of a 99-year-old man.

After hip replacement surgery, patient D. D. D was able to walk and recovered well after the surgery. The patient had an accident while doing daily activities, was diagnosed with a femoral neck fracture and was scheduled for hip replacement surgery.

Hip replacement is a routine surgical technique at the Central Lung Hospital, performed by interdisciplinary doctors: General Surgery, Anesthesia and Resuscitation, Diagnostic Imaging, Rehabilitation...

Dr. Do Dang Hoan, Deputy Head of the General Surgery Department, who directly performed the surgery, said: This surgery requires special attention to the risk of dislocation after the joint replacement. The team of doctors and nurses carefully calculated the fastest surgery time, minimizing damage to the patient's soft tissue. More importantly, in surgery for elderly patients, anesthesia and resuscitation are important factors for the success of the surgery.

Specialist II Doctor Nguyen Viet Nghia, Head of the Department of Anesthesia and Resuscitation, shared: "The surgery was a problem for us. Overcoming the challenges of old age, underlying diseases such as high blood pressure, heart failure in the elderly, acute respiratory failure..., we consulted and carefully calculated to agree on an anesthesia and resuscitation plan for the patient. The patient was in a lot of pain due to a broken femoral neck, old age, and weak bones and joints. We had to block the femoral nerve to reduce pain before surgery and apply spinal anesthesia combined with epidural anesthesia with the lightest sedation during surgery for the patient to ensure safety and convenience for the surgeon to perform the technique accurately - safely - effectively to help the surgery be successful."

After surgery, the patient was maintained on epidural analgesia for hip arthroplasty to ensure the patient was pain-free throughout the postoperative treatment for 3 consecutive days.

Mr. Đ.Đ.N, the patient's great-grandson, shared: "My family completely trusted the medical team when deciding to take my grandfather to the Central Lung Hospital. Everyone was very happy and surprised to see him regain consciousness quickly, his mobility recovered quickly, and his spirit was also excited. My family sincerely thanks the doctors..."

With the cooperation of specialized doctors, the patient recovered well a few days after the surgery. Currently, the patient can sit up, eat normally and is undergoing rehabilitation exercises, walking with a walking frame just a few days after the surgery.

The Central Lung Hospital is a leading institute in anesthesia and resuscitation techniques. Anesthesia, resuscitation, and surgery for the elderly, whose body functions gradually decrease with age, is always a major challenge in medicine./.
