On January 29, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Manh Khanh, Deputy Director of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, Head of the Department of CT Surgery and Sports Medicine, said: When transferred to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, both elderly women were conscious, with severe leg pain and swelling due to a domestic accident, falling and hitting their hips on a hard surface.
Immediately after admission, the specialist ordered X-rays, ultrasounds... and diagnosed Ms. VTS (105 years old, Tuyen Quang) with a broken femoral neck and Ms. NTN (97 years old, Hung Yen) with a broken femur.
Dr. Nguyen Manh Khanh visited the health of Mrs. VTS (105 years old, from Tuyen Quang) after the successful surgery.
After discussing with the family about the patients' health condition and consulting with departments, the doctors performed surgery on the two elderly women using the partial hip replacement method, using a small, minimally invasive incision to limit damage, reduce pain and help patients recover faster.
Two days after the successful surgery, both patients recovered quickly. Currently, the two elderly women are conscious, their blood pressure is stable, their pain has decreased and they are practicing sitting up. It is expected that the patients will soon receive rehabilitation exercises and practice moving the surrounding joints.
Viet Duc Friendship Hospital has successfully performed partial hip replacement for many elderly patients, however, up to this point, Mrs. VTS (105 years old, Tuyen Quang) is the oldest patient.
"Femoral neck fractures are a common accident in the elderly, mainly due to slipping on hard surfaces, or falling and hitting the hip on the ground. Hip replacement surgery is currently the optimal treatment for femoral neck fractures caused by trauma, helping to restore motor function. This is a difficult technique, requiring a team of experienced surgical experts and modern equipment," Dr. Nguyen Manh Khanh shared.
