Mr. Nguyen Trong (40 years old, Hanoi) and his wife and children went for a general health check-up. The results showed that his son's blood type was AB and his daughter's was O, while his blood type was B, making him suspect that the two children were not his biological children.

The results confirmed that Mr. Trong and his children were related by blood. He asked the examiner, “Why are the two children my children but not of the same blood type?”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, Director of the Center for DNA Analysis and Genetic Technology (Hanoi) said that having the same blood type does not necessarily mean father and son, while having different blood types like Mr. Trong's case means father and son. All of these are the consequences of genetic laws.
In fact, it is possible for a child to have the same blood type as both parents, but this is not always the case. For example, parents with blood types AB and O can have a child with blood type A or blood type B. These two blood types are definitely different from the parents' blood types. But parents with blood type O will always have a child with blood type O.
“Thus, not all biological fathers and children will have the same blood type. This is also a common answer for many people to avoid unfortunate misunderstandings that affect family relationships,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga.
The expert’s logical and in-depth analysis helped Mr. Trong realize the problem and request to cancel the results right at the center. However, the appraisers said that the results would be kept in the center’s records and could not be canceled. Customers could only cancel their own results.
Mr. Trong also admitted that he was too suspicious, so he made a decision that made his wife sad, and he himself felt regretful for his actions. Returning home, the man tried every way to make up for the mental damage he had caused to his wife and children and promised to trust and work with his wife to build happiness for their small family.
According to experts, relying solely on blood type to determine blood relationships is not enough. DNA testing is the most accurate way to determine blood relationships. DNA testing is the analysis of DNA information in 23 pairs of chromosomes of two or more people to determine genetic relationships.
