Located about 5 km from Coc Pai town (Xin Man district, Ha Giang province), at an altitude of more than 1,200 m above sea level, Suoi Thau grassland is an attractive destination for tourists when coming to the West of Ha Giang province.
With its winding hillsides, terraced fields, buckwheat fields interspersed with tall trees in the middle of the steppe and cool climate, Suoi Thau is often described as "a miniature Switzerland in the heart of Ha Giang".
Each season, Suoi Thau has different colors and each season is beautiful. In spring, the yellow canola flowers bloom. In summer, the green of corn fields, rice fields, and grasslands. Late autumn and early winter are the most beautiful and brilliant seasons, with the pink and white color of buckwheat flowers mixed with tall rows of green cycads.
Buckwheat is a typical flower in Ha Giang, usually blooming from late October to early December, when the weather is cold and foggy.
Buckwheat flowers bloom in clusters, with petals clustered together in a cone shape.
In mid-November, the flowers are pinkish white. When the weather turns cold, the flowers turn a darker pinkish purple.
Not only adorning the Ha Giang grasslands, buckwheat flowers are also used as a food, made into cakes or some other local dishes.
To serve the needs of tourists, Ha Giang people often grow buckwheat in alternating seasons. Although the life cycle is only about 2 months, when buckwheat blooms, it still has time to add a unique beauty to the entire rocky plateau in Ha Giang.
Currently, the cost to enter the buckwheat garden in Suoi Thau grassland is 20,000 VND/person.

The 10th Buckwheat Flower Festival in 2024 with the theme "The Land of Nostalgia Flowers" promises to have many attractive and unique cultural activities, taking place from January 9 to November 21, such as the competition to perform and introduce traditional costumes of ethnic groups in Dong Van district; demonstration and experience of linen weaving; hand embroidery of traditional costumes; making of household items and traditional musical instruments; exhibition and introduction of local cultural, tourism, agricultural, culinary and medicinal products.
The buckwheat flower festival in Ha Giang is an event that attracts a large number of tourists to admire the beauty of the flower symbolizing the resilient vitality and wild beauty of the highlands of the Fatherland.
