The completion of detailed planning for the two major industrial zones has attracted businesses to invest in industrial infrastructure in Lao Cai .
With its strategic location as a gateway, Lao Cai is considered to have great potential for developing cross-border e-commerce. However, due to underdeveloped infrastructure and some procedural obstacles, customs clearance for e-commerce goods through the Lao Cai border gate remains challenging. Nevertheless, these barriers are gradually being removed, especially with the approval of the decree on customs procedures for e-commerce goods, which will create a clearer legal framework. Recognizing this trend, Viettel Post has become one of the pioneering enterprises investing in the e-commerce sector in Lao Cai. "Our border gate areas need upgrading, especially the Kim Thanh border gate which needs additional logistics infrastructure; we need to quickly deploy smart border gates to connect with the Chinese market. In Lao Cai, we have a huge tourism market; if we develop tourism strongly, this will be a very good channel for promoting e-commerce. Lao Cai currently lacks the infrastructure for customs clearance and express delivery of e-commerce goods, so this needs to be accelerated in the near future," analyzed Lieutenant Colonel Dinh Thanh Son, Deputy General Director of Viettel Post Corporation.
The processing and manufacturing industry is one of the sectors that the province is focusing on attracting investment. However, the current weakness is the lack of land and industrial park infrastructure, which makes many investors hesitant. The completion of detailed planning for two large industrial parks has attracted several large enterprises interested in investing in industrial infrastructure in Lao Cai. "In the future, this will be an economic development center with many infrastructure facilities invested in and expanded. We hope that the local government will provide certain tax incentives to attract more buyers or leasers of land in the industrial parks to invest in the deep processing of minerals," said Mr. Harry Hughes, Vice Chairman of the Strategic Council of Saigontel Corporation.
Lao Cai focuses on developing high-quality information, communication, trade, and tourism infrastructure.
Besides physical infrastructure, Lao Cai also focuses on developing information and communication infrastructure, the digital economy, and e-commerce to enhance competitiveness. The province will also create favorable conditions for the development of high-quality financial services, trade, and tourism, increasing the value of the supply chain and boosting export capacity. "We will gradually concretize the provincial and regional planning. Based on that, we will synchronize infrastructure and select high-tech enterprises and investors to promote the application of high technology in the direction of deep processing," emphasized Comrade Trinh Xuan Truong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
At the recently held "Meeting 2025" event, Lao Cai directly signed memoranda of understanding with several domestic and foreign businesses in areas such as: industrial infrastructure development, transportation infrastructure, clean energy; promoting green transformation and cooperating in the development of carbon credit projects. This is the result of efforts to change the form of investment promotion, making the picture of attracting investment to the province increasingly brighter.
