Lang Son City: Well managing private medical practice - Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television Station

The interdisciplinary inspection team on non-public medical and pharmaceutical practice of Lang Son city inspected Hoang Son Eye Clinic (Hoang Van Thu ward, Lang Son city).

According to statistics from the Department of Health, the city currently has 265 licensed private medical and pharmaceutical establishments, accounting for 1/3 of the total number of private medical and pharmaceutical establishments in the province. Of these, there are 140 medical establishments and 125 establishments that retail modern medicine.

Realizing the importance of tightening management, the People's Committee of Lang Son city has directed specialized agencies (City Health Department, City Health Center) to synchronously deploy many specific solutions. In particular, inspection and examination work is carried out regularly, both according to periodic plans and surprise inspections, focusing on contents such as: practice conditions, drug origin, prescription, drug dispensing, price listing and implementation of professional regulations.

Dr. Dinh Thi Hoa, Director of Lang Son City Medical Center, said: We consider the management of private medical and pharmaceutical practices an important and regular task. We increase regular and surprise inspections, and focus on providing guidance and professional support so that facilities can comply with legal regulations.

During the inspection and supervision process, the authorities have integrated propaganda and guidance for private medical facilities to correct violations and properly implement legal regulations. Legal documents related to medical examination and treatment, pharmaceutical business, professional regulations, and professional ethics have also been widely disseminated through meetings, training sessions, and on social networks. From 2024 to present, the city has organized 2 training courses with the participation of nearly 500 private medical staff, focusing on contents such as: rational prescription, safe use of drugs, and updating regulations on medical practice.

From 2024 to present, the City Health Department has coordinated to organize 46 inspections and supervisions of private medical and pharmaceutical establishments. Inspection results show that many establishments have seriously invested in upgrading facilities and medical equipment, complying with medical examination and treatment procedures, publicly posting prices and ensuring the sale of drugs according to prescriptions. The owners of the establishments have shown a receptive spirit, actively participated in professional training courses and expressed their agreement with the supervision and guidance from the authorities. Through inspections, the authorities have detected and handled 5 violations with a total fine of 14 million VND (a decrease of 4 million VND compared to 2023), mainly due to incomplete price posting; the person in charge of professional responsibility of the drug retail establishment was absent during operating hours; the signboard did not have enough basic information as prescribed...

Doctor Hoang Son, Owner of Hoang Son Eye Clinic (Tran Phu Street, Hoang Van Thu Ward) shared: We strongly support the inspection and guidance of the authorities. Through the inspections, we are reminded of shortcomings in implementing professional regulations, thereby promptly correcting them. The specialized training sessions are also very practical, helping me and my staff update knowledge and improve professional skills.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai, a resident of Dong Kinh Ward, Lang Son City, said: In the past, I often bought medicine based on my feelings, but now all pharmacies require a doctor's prescription, instructions, and clearer explanations. I think that change is positive, helping us feel more secure when examining and treating illnesses as well as buying medicine for treatment.

Ms. Truong Thi Hang, Chief Inspector of the Department of Health, commented: The management of private medical and pharmaceutical practices in Lang Son city has been the best compared to the average of the districts. The City Health Department has implemented relatively synchronous solutions from propaganda, guidance to inspection and handling of violations, contributing to gradually bringing private medical and pharmaceutical activities into order and in accordance with the law.

With the proactive and drastic measures of the City Health Department and the close coordination of all levels and sectors, the management of private medical and pharmaceutical practices in Lang Son city is becoming more and more effective. In the coming time, the authorities will continue to maintain close supervision, strengthen propaganda and training, and as planned, in April 2025, the city's interdisciplinary inspection team will conduct inspections of 14 private medical and pharmaceutical practices in the area.
