City People's Committee leaders speak at the ceremony
– On the morning of May 24, the People's Committee of Lang Son city organized a ceremony to launch the nationwide swimming practice to prevent drowning in 2023 and opened a swimming class for children aged 6 to 15 in the city at Dong Doi swimming pool (Chi Lang ward) with the participation of more than 150 primary and secondary school students.
According to a report by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, every year, Vietnam has about more than 2,000 children die from drowning. From January 2023 to May 2023, the whole country had more than 40 children die from drowning in some provinces such as Nghe An, Ha Tinh. Gia Lai... In Lang Son province, there was a drowning incident in Van Quan district, causing 3 children to die.
For Lang Son city, in recent times, all levels, sectors, especially schools, have strengthened propaganda work on drowning prevention and injury prevention for children; many swimming classes are regularly organized... Therefore, from January to May 2023, there were no cases of child drowning.
At the ceremony, the leaders of the City People's Committee requested departments, agencies, units, People's Committees of wards and communes to regularly inspect and review rivers, streams, ponds, lakes, etc., post warning signs, and have safety fences; strengthen propaganda for people and students to raise awareness in preventing accidents and injuries, and preventing drowning; provide guidance on building "safe houses", "safe schools", and "safe communities".

In addition, the City People's Committee calls on businesses, organizations and individuals to join hands in contributing human and material resources to invest in facilities and swimming pools so that more people and children have the opportunity to learn to swim; recommends that families regularly pay attention to and supervise children, especially during summer vacation, proactively take children to swimming lessons, update knowledge and skills on drowning prevention; recommends that students actively practice sports in general and practice swimming to improve their health, and absolutely do not go to rivers, streams, ponds or lakes without an adult accompanying them.
